Problem with the main menu
Autore: Vlad L.I noticed a strange problem, i've been getting complaints from users that they cant acces the main menu from my site (www.medicalexpert.ro) : they can see it, but hovering over it doesnt open any submenus. At first I had no idea what was happening, supposing that it just didn't finished loading -and seeming that switching from the main page to something else, like "contact" and clicking back on "acasa" (home) made everything work as it should- decided to ignore it. The thing is that the problem still persists and after looking at it more carefully I noticed that my "main" page, the one that can be accessed from google points to www.medicalexpert.ro INSTEAD, the one that is shown in X5 editor's preview, and the one that actually has the menu working (after switching the pages around as mentioned above) is www.medicalexpert.ro/acasa.html; and there is the problem. How can I fix this ?
Hello Vlad,
I see your problem and understand what you are saying.
The two pages in question have been produced using different versions of the X5 software: one with version 10.1.8.52 and one with the current version 10.1.12.57
It looks like some sort of file corruption has occurred as a result of this.
I would suggest in the first instance doing a full refresh of the existing files on your web server. In other words, delete all X5 files from the server, and publish to the web anew, using the option in Step 5 to transfer ALL files, not just those changed recently.
Let us know if the problem still persists having done that.
Kind regards,
Paul

I did just that before asking here, but encountered a strange problem : 404.
Even if the files were there, accessing the site was impossible... (i am using Cpanel if it matters)
Any advice ?

Why is x5 making this ? It's not like I was using a 5 y/o version of the program, 10.1.8.52 and 10.1.12.57 are very cloose to one another, you'd expect nothing to go wrong from just a simple update...
Hello Vlad,
In this instance I genuinely don't feel WebSite X5 is causing your issue. I think your issue is due to corrupt files on the server, uploading to the wrong folder on the server, or server misconfiguration.
Your statement that you got a 404 error further strengthens my belief that this is the case.
Can you check please that all old files are deleted from you server completely, and can you then confirm that the 'Destination folder' in Step 5 of WebSite X5 under 'Optional parameters' is set to reflect the root folder of your project on the server... i.e. the one in which acasa.html should be uploaded to?
Kind regards,
Paul

This is what i did:
1. opened public_html/medicalexpert.ro (the folder where i've been uploading the site for over a year now)
2. copyed everything somewhere else (for backup) and then delete everything in this folder
3. let x5 re-upload the files, in the same folder
After that I checked the contents and everything was in order (close to the size of the "old" version, same folder architecture and contents) but now if i go to the web adress, i get 404.
Is there a setting that points to the main page of the site which now may be pointing to soomething else ?
It appears to now be working correctly. Uploading anew has cured it.
If you cannot see the changes in your own browser, try emptying the cache or pressing F5 on your keyboard to refresh the page.
Kind regards,
Paul
You could also check whether your server is employing a process whereby the "uptime" is increased.
I can't remember what it's called but it can result in massive corruptions of an "edit and publish".
It's to do with the server cache when it does its backup.
I had it switched off!
Best wishes,
Nigel

Fixed it, it was a problem with the server, after redoing the above procedure, now it actually worked, it was strange tough, same files, same place, different result :) Thanks anyway
