Hi

I am hoping that someone on the forum can assist me with a particular issue regarding my current website on http://www.vayro.namethat was prepared using Incomedia Website X5 software version 8.

As a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GoONS) I am keen to provide something that would be available “in perpetuity” i.e. once I have passed away to that “virtual cloud” or have lost the mental ability and agility to maintain the present site hosted by One.com.  Under the present system if my subscription is not paid the site would automatically be closed by the server. Only to be expected I suppose.

I have only just paid my subscriptions in April 2015 and do not want to close the existing website, and hopefully shall keep it running for a few years yet, but hope to create a copy of the site content presently hosted by One.com so that the copy can be placed on an additional website server.

Having put a great deal of time and effort into organising, establishing and regularly updating the website I am hoping that something similar will remain available on another web server provided by GoONS on a permanent basis.  The Guild webmaster and his team are presently conducting a trial project to determine how much interest there is in the membership, and they are hoping that this facility for storing the website content of selected members could become a permanent feature of the Guild Archives, but probably not until late 2016 at the earliest.

According to a colleague who has far more computing expertise and understanding than I have, the http://www.vayro.namewebsite is not a fully freestanding HTML site, with certain elements that cannot be copied and uploaded to a third party site (commercial or otherwise), namely the background images and main titles for the site. Together with this I understand that my current material cannot be transferred directly to Website X5 version 11. Rather strange because Family Tree Maker newer versions will automatically convert earlier versions of a database, and I thought all software would be similar.

During the preparation stages for organising the site the various sections of text and images were prepared as MS Publisher or MS Word documents, so I have the original material and jpg images as well as PDF versions of the content as backups.

It would be possible for me, given time, to completely start again from scratch, cutting and pasting into another software system, but I would rather not have to do that. So my question is simply could anyone  assist by suggesting the easiest way of copying the present site content,  to HTML or in a simpler format, so that at some point in the future GoONS could store the material in their archives for the long-term survival of one-name studies websites of their members, and mine in particular.

Thanking you for any assistance you can give

Sincerely

John Rennison Vayro
