HELP! How do i update/add meta titles to my sight in X5-11? If i add an extended page title, it shows up in source code, but when if i turn off the extended page title then i lose them again. The problem i have is that I dont want the extended page title to show up on my web-page... ... but i do want the meta titles.

how do i therefore add them into the backend so the site is properly optimsed for search, without having the content appear at the front end?

thanks much

Hello Christopher C.,

On your website is the description of the pages and the keywords present.

In this way it is optimized for the search engines. The Extended page title is also useful for the search engines but if you have already added the description and keyword this helps to be found on the search engines.

Many thanks!

thanks for the reply but I need to push this a little further. In discussion with my SEO agency who are helping me optimise my page, they have challenged that the meta-titles are important for optimisation, and they have stated that the keywords are of relatively little value.

Therefore, not being able to include strong meta titles isnt helping me. So i need to ask again, is there anyway to add meta titles into the back end rather than the front end, as i dont want them showing in the extended titles on page?

thanks

Chris

Hello Christopher,

1.  Write an Extended Page Title for each page using the field on the General tab of the page's Properties (remember to tick the checkbox to switch the Extended Page Title on)

2.  Go to Step 1 General Settings > Template Style > Text Style > Page Item (drop-down menu) > Page Title, and uncheck the box marked 'Style - Visible'

3.  Reupload your project to the web.

Your extended page titles will still be used for search engine indexing even though they are not visible on the web page.  If you look at the source code of any page you will see the extended page title amongst a block of code like this:

<div id="imHeader"><h1 class="imHidden">Extended Page Title - New Project</h1></div>

Kind regards,

Paul

Fabulous. MANY thanks, that answered my query! I was right to push a little further. Just for some feedback, was the initial question not clear enough?

thanks much again,

Chris
