You could use the .htacces file for that, check internet there are a lot of topics.

Thanks, I looked it over but unfortunately I am not tech-savvy enough to make heads or tails out of this. Wouldn't know which one to use or where to start. Is this easy enough to be walked through? Or would I need to hire someone to do it? Would I be going from a non-www site to a www site (because I am going from a subdomain to a new www domain site)

You can set the adresses yourself in the text in the file with notepad.

you  only need this code: Redirect 301 / http://www.HiddenGardenArt.com/

and save as .htaccess  with no dot or anything behind it only in front one dot.

Then upload to the webserver from your old webhosting. bare in my if you stop at that hostingparty with your old webstie name, they will remove the file and the webadress and redirect won't work anymore, so keep it for a little while and tell customers to use the new webadres.

you need an ftp programm like filezilla or you could login to your webserver with the login provided by your webhosting for uploading.

it's realy not hard, else read some more about redirect and htacces file on internet.

You gave me a very simple code to type in. But where do I type it? Someplace in WebsiteX5? Or are you saying for me to log into GoDaddy, naviate to my FTP site for that subdomain (please note it is subdomain, not domain) and then just type it somewhere in there? 

Or maybe you are saying I upload that text to my subdomain site, replacing the actual website with only that text you gave me?

I am sorry that I am not grasping this. I can't believe with all the $ I pay GoDaddy that they won't help me with this.

No problem, ask away, i will answer to the best of my knowladge.

The code I gave you, you can enter it in notepad.

then save that file like I already wrote as ->  .htaccaes  <- on your desktop or anywhere else on your pc.

Upload that file to the root of the old website host, in your case in the subdomain, with an ftp program or by your login from your webhost.

If there is already an .htacces file present then just edit this file and add the code then save.

That should be it. There is no messing up the website's and if it does not work just remove the file or the code and all will be like it used to be.

Check if the normal domain functions normally (it should) and check if the redirect works from the subdomain.

Hi, thanks again for such clear instructions. I wrote a reply yesterday, but apparently it didn't post, so putting it up again.

I copied your text " Redirect 301 / http://www.HiddenGardenArt.com/ " into notepad and saved as " .htaccess "  Then I logged into GoDaddy / FileManager and the " Webroot " file saw on the left. I expanded that and located the " HiddenGarden" file. I opened it and uploaded the " .htaccess " file.

Attached is a screen shot of the upload. I noticed that a " .txt " was added as a suffix. Is that why this may not be working? Or perhaps I have not put it in the correct root folder?

If you save it in notepad you need to set the txt option on *.* so that there will be no .txt behind the file. (you can als remove it with rename option)

You need the file to upload to : hiddengarden.thevanstonegroup.com

not in the new website, but the old one, if someones visits the old one then the file will take care of redirecting to the webadres in the .htacces file so you end up on the correct site.

Charlene, I'm at work and short on time. You should not have to be doing any of that stuff. Some basic thing is wrong, like your old site still on the server. Your new site should be up and a simple re-direct from your old domain should work. (I have a couple of sites that way.) Regards - Donald

Until You get it to work, You could use a workaround

If You still have access to Your "old" site, You can let this direct to the new site automatically.

On the old site's homepage, You add a HTML-code-object.

In this object You write :

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10; url=http://www.Yournewsitename.xx" />

The 10 is a number of seconds it will last before the visitor are redirected.

It could be set to 0 = immediately, or a number that will give the visitor time to read on the page.

This is just a simple workaround - hope You get Your problem solved.

Thanks to all -- I resaved without the .txt, but I must be putting it in the wrong place because still no success.  Donald B - I did those steps in GoDaddy, didn't work, and that's when I was on support with GoDaddy tech and they finally told me it was problem with my website program.

So John S., I do have access to my old site, and wonder about adding the code you gave me, but again, not sure where to add it. I am attaching a screenshot of the area in websiteX5  which I think you may be referring to, but want to know if I should delete the codes that are already there. So if you could direct me further on that, would be great.

And Andre - I am not giving up on your suggestion, just need to determine where else it could be that I should be entering this.  In GoDaddy File Manager it is a webroot for the main file, and then I drill down to the subdomain and just upload. It shows the file has uploaded, but still not redirecting.

All further instructions is appreciated.  Last resort will be for me to call GoDaddy again to get them to help me upload the htaccess in the right place, but hoping to get it fixed with all your support so I don't have to call them again. Thanks.

Well a redirect from website should also work, like John says but sometimes this is detected by firewall and browsers and then gives a warning pop up for users. But it will be a redirect if go daddy and the htaccess file failes.

The file should be in the subdomain where the website of the subdomain is also located.

So to be clear, you want me to upload the attachment you sent directly into my subdomain thru File Manager in GoDaddy? Could you please look at the JPEG I am attaching to tell me if I am putting it in the correct place? Figure 1 shows the "webroot" on the top left of the box, highlighted in gray.  Figure 2 shows where I drilled down to hiddengarden. (It currently shows the htaccess I uploaded the other day, that didn't work). So maybe I am not putting it where you are instructing me to place it?

I can't see the rest but it looks like the correct place.

Again there is no harm in trying, if somehow something strange happens you can always remove the file.

Your index.html file should also be there.

Am I supposed to do something with the index.html file?

The code will not be visible on Your page.

It is just a very easy way to deal with Your problem - You can let it work until You have another solution.

This will function - I guarantee. And then, When You have found another solution, You will have to do nothing else.

I have tried both fixes. After uploading Andre's htaccess file, there is still no change. I see it in the webroot directory for my subdomain, listed in alphabetical order amongst the other files, but no change.  So I did John's redirect from the homepage, which works. I currently have it set for two seconds, but I think would like to add a message that users are being redirected to our new website www.HiddenGardenArt.com. Can you tell me how to do that? Are there any long-term consequences to keeping it this way? Or should I call GoDaddy to have them walk me through where I should be uploading Andre's file -- that has to be the problem, that I am putting it in the wrong place.  Thanks so much to you both!

You can create a text objext above the html file object with a text of the redirect, or somewhere else on the home page where you already have text and then upload.

I shall check if there are issues with the htacces file with godaddy and get back to you on it what the best thing to do will be.

The folder should be good as you describe it, so IMHO it should work.

You can see an example I have here. The text is in danish, but it tells the user that he will be redirected in 10 seconds, and that he can click the lower image, if he wants to see the "old" page.

You can experiment with the time setting - the time setting can also be 0, which redirects immediately. This function will have no long-term consequences - and it will automatically be inactive if/when You have the htaccess-solution to function.
