Program always hangs when adding text to header

I'm trying to add/modify text to a header template. The text that was added shows in the "preview" area of the HEADER AND FOOTER CONTENT page, but not in the header area itself. It did show there when I created it, but as soon as I tried to move the text box placement the text itself disappeared. I continually get the windows "busy" swirl instead of my curser when the curser is inside the design area.
Saving, exiting, relaunching - same problem.
Reboot PC - same problem.
Tried deleteing project and creating new project - same problem 3 times in a row.
13.0.3.22 running on windows 7 on macbook

Loaded on a PC running win10, so far the same problems have not reappeared.........

Are you running Windows on the macbook in a virtual machine?
Are all windows updates installed on Windows 7?
