Which search engine to use for a website newbie?
Autore: Joe C.Hi all,
'm brand new to web building and am looking for advice on how to set up and include a search engine on one's page.
What I'm hoping the search engine to achieve:i - to be able to search a table of data stored on my server (which I am yet to set up) and to be able to retrieve info for that record e.g. if I searched the word "Japan" I would like it to retrieve info from the server such as "Capital: Tokyo"
ii - for the toolbar to be able to predict text e.g. after entering "Ja" it would list directly beneath it "Jamaica - capital: Kingston" and beneath that record "Japan - capital: Tokyo" and so on (similar to google's or amazon's tool bar except that it retrieves additional but fixed info).
I'd be very grateful for suggestions of search engine platforms that would be suitable for achieving the above and advice on whether the above is feasible for someone with 0 coding/web building knowledge (...the availability of online tutorials for setting up the SE would be a big bonus).
A friend who also has little web building knowledge suggested using Apache Lucene - anyone have experience with this and know if suitable?
Please Help.
Thanks !
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Hello Joe,
in order to obtain this result you should use custom code, as this is not automatically possible only using WebSite X5.
Thank you in advance! Kind regards.
Hello Joe
For a search engine to the database, I will recommend the free software REPORTICO.
I use it on my site.
You can see an example here : http://www.energifremtiden.dk/c4d/search.html
You go back to the head-menu by choosing the upper menu to the left.
In the search you can select before you click GO, and then you can also search when the result is presented.
The REPORTICO is a very good software. It is rather easy to use, and it is free.
You can see somn emore information here : http://www.reportico.org/site/index.php
As you can see - With X5, you can build a site in no-time, and you can use the software as "container" for other software.
I have integrated the REPORTICO via an iframe - it is rather easy.
Hope this was helpful
Kind regards
John S.
