Can't get rid of blank space

Hello,
I can't get rid of a big blank space at the top of my pages. Can you tell me what the problem is?

Mike, perhaps you could explain your page structure? I do not understand the 2 full width lines (I cannot achieve more than one (header background) unless I create a huge footer background.
- I also assume you have visited template structure for each resolution and set the appropriate header depth for each?
