Adding filters to shop page and sub menus for different categories

Hi guys i would like to improve my online shop basically i dont like the way all products are displayed straight away i have put the search bar to help people to look for items.
I would like to add some categories for items IE: sound with a drop down list of a sub categories the customer clicks on it and its take them to another page with the specified items in it.
Im not sure if this is possible but would be great if it could.
This would make the shop a lot better when you sell loads of products in different catgories with different items for that categorie

In the onlineshop section you enter the products, the categories are used for better findability and easier selection in the object product catalog.
In the Objects product catalog, you can activate entire categories, manual selections from categories or / and individual products for display.
In the internal search engine, the products are shown as a separate group, from where can also be ordered directly.
