Content wider than screen - H1 all over my page
Autore: Giulio V.I am having several issues with content wider than screen but this particular page has got me at a loss for what to do.
The page shows up fine on desktop PC but does not show up at all on a cell phone. It appears to be pushed completely off the screen on mobile device. In vertical position or horizontal.
Here is the link to the page giving a severe headache, I have tried different things but still at a loss as how to fix it. https://prolinesystems.net/tru-line_laser_wheel_alignment_system.html
The attached screen capture of the text object page that shows multiple H1 and there is a large space to the right that seems to be causing this problem and not allowing it to horizontally fill the page. There are dashed lines around each section, I have not experienced this on any other pages.
I thought I could remove the H1 tags and see what happens but don't see a way to do it.
PLEASE any suggestion is Greatly Appreciated. Thank goodness we have some great folks here we can rely on
Hello.Maybe you have some object in the footer or header of the site, which is located outside the site area?
Autore
Thank you for your reply but I checked and dont see anything outside the header or footer. And why do I have H1 all over the page?
Thank you.
Hello Giulio,
Did you copy and paste the text in these objects from another source, as opposed to typing the information in manually into WebSite X5?
And have you enabled HTML code in these Text Objects?
The Objects contain code which does not appear to be very well formed. Also, there is an inordinate number of non-breaking spaces in a few places.
It is always best to use CSS for styling and positioning, as opposed to HTML. If you use the built-in formatting tools in the various WebSite X5 Objects then you can leave the software to work out the CSS required itself.
If copying and pasting text from other sources, it is important to remove any hidden control characters and rich text formatting. You can do this by pasting the text first into Notepad, then copying from Notepad and pasting into WebSite X5.
Kind regards,
Paul

Hello,
there is a text that ends up outside the page content (indicated by the yellow arrow in the screenshot below). I reduced Chrome's zoom to - 67% (green oval) to see it. It should be removed.
I selected the text of the page to make you understand to which line of the text it belongs
Yes, but it is not the text which is at fault, but rather the numerous non-breaking spaces in the div, just before it:
<div class="imTALeft">It will measure caster, camber, SAI, two wheel, thrust line and total four wheel toe. Camber can be read even on a non level surface. Runs on D cell batteries - no cables or computers to deal with / 100% USA made</div>
Also, the page as it stands at present contains duplicate texts, clearly also an error:
The Tru-Line TL-12 offers unsurpassed accuracy, simplicity and reliability. Wheel Alignments can be done wherever and whenever you need. On your frame machine or on the floor.
It will measure caster, camber, SAI, two wheel, thrust line and total four wheel toe. Camber can be read even on a non level surface. (x2)

Wow! You guys are amazing and so well appreciated.
It is easy to feel alone and no where to turn to when issues develop but you responded quickly and I am feeling secure knowing there are good people here to jump in and offer their expertise.
PAUL, you are right on track and knew right where the issue was, I certainlly learnd a lot from you and thank you so very much.
Paul you mentioned I had an issue of duplicate content but that was already taken care of when you checked the page. Immediately After receiving your suggestion about copied text I deleted it and rewrote the page.
Yesterday I re-wrote the page which you had not seen yet. I uploaded it several times and can't understand why it shows as a white page with just the Hamburger Menu showing on the cell phone. It is being pushed completely off the screen to the left, Although, if you take your thumb and forefinger and pinch them togther a couple of times it brings it into view on the left side, although very narrow and then needs to be resized.
Totally Bad and unacceptable, now I know why my phone and inquiries completely stopped for several months. I thought it was because the market was slow, but now we know why.
So I guess the next question is, why the new fixed content is not being updated so I can see if I have it fixed.
When I preview it in X5 all the updated content is correctly displayed and all looks good, but when I do a Google search and clik the link on the phone I still have the blank page with only the Hamburger Menu showing, And when I do the thumb and forefinger and squeeze a couple of times it comes into view but it still shows the old content.
So why is the page not being updated? Have I messed up the URL somehow? I am totally confused.
Could the URL which used _ underscores between words have been changed to - dashes since I updated and saved the page and now my updates don't know where to go?

Your suggestion to guide me to what I should do next is very appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance, I can't say enough how much you being here is so appreciated.
Giulio
Hello again Giulio,
Your WebSite X5 files are being uploaded to the correct place on the server, be in no doubt about that. Your revised (and error free) page is available to view here:
https://prolinesystems.net/tru-line-laser-wheel-alignment-system.html
It can take some time for Google to get around to recrawling your site and refreshing its index. Until that happens your old page (with the old URL) will continue to show up in the Google search results. In fact, even after your new page is indexed, the old page might still remain in the Google index, which is not good for several different reasons.
However, as the webmaster you have some control over this, and you can manually instruct Google to delete any page(s) which are redundant and no longer required. You do this using Google's own webmaster tools. There is nothing you can do from within WebSite X5 to effect any change in this regard.
Please have a look at the following links which will tell you all you need to know:
https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
As a webmaster it's important to keep on top of issues with old pages/URLs like this, because if Google thinks that you have duplicate pages and content on your site then this would severely hurt your Google ranking, pushing your search results further down the list, and away from the top spots.
Good luck!

Paul, when I changed the underscores in the URL to Dashes it takes me to the newly updated web page with all the correctionsI had made. https://prolinesystems.net/tru-line-laser-wheel-alignment-system.html
So I think when I updated the page and saved it, it probably did it as a new URL. Many versions back X5 automatically used Underscores.
So how can I relate it back to the URL with underscores that at least showed up on searches or whatever, honestly I am confused but you are the one that has much more experience than me.
Please advise
Our messages crossed... please see above
Once you have informed Google about the old content, then you should also resubmit your sitemap and ask Google to do a recrawl:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6065812?hl=en
Then just sit back and relax, and in due course everything will be as you want it to be. But once again, remember Google works at its own pace... you can't enforce changes to the Google index: you can only encourage and try to hasten them.
Autore
Paul, Thanks...So did you see the additional message above that shows the one URL with Underscores and Now another one with dashes as seperaters in the URL. This would appear as duplicate content which is no good.
At least the URL with the underscores had been there for years and had decent placement on searh engines.
But now with the URL with dashes will I have lost all Juice?
What about 301 re-directs? Is this an option or I will have to just wait it out as the creepy page showing up with nothing on screen and not receiving any updates goes away.
I have gone into Google search console before in the past to remove URL's from Google's cache but this seems to be for only 90 days. But I still see these old pages coming up on searches. Not Good.
As you can see I am certainally not experienced as you and hope I am explaining things in a clear manner, I just want to make sure I am doing the correct things.
Again your help is Golden, thank you so much.
You can do a 301 redirect if you like, but the problem with that is you then have to keep the old page active. What I have done in the past is set up a 301 redirect for three months or so, and then deleted the old page along with the redirect, in the hope that Google has cottoned on by then.
One major benefit of doing a 301 redirect in the short term is that you'll be less likely to lose customers who abandon the site on account of the errors on the old page (as they will obviously never see it).
The main thing is to tell Google about the good URL, the one you want to keep. I sincerely believe that if you intervene manually and promptly with Google then you lose little if any ranking. But I am only going by my own past experience. The algorithms are constantly changing, but at the present moment duplicate content is definitely one of the things which would hurt your ranking most.
Remember that without your intervention Google has no way of knowing that you didn't put both similar pages there intentionally, nor will it know which is your 'preferred' page. It will just see two almost identical pages.
The old page will disappear from the Google index promptly, once you have told Google about the change. And likewise your new page will come onstream just as quickly, providing you do either the 301 redirect or alternatively ask Google to deindex the old page. But whatever you do, don't leave both pages on the server without doing anything at all, as that would be search rank suicide

Paul,
Thank you for the links they are very helpful.
When I enter the old URL with underscores it says "The content is still Live on the web" Before Google can remove it from our search results the page needs to be deleted by the site owner.
Please see the attached file of different things it is asking and please let me know what choices I need to click on
Thank you for helping me get through this
Autore
Paul,
If I go to my Godaddy server and delete the old URL will this be helpful?
I know I have a lot to learn but I never did a 301 redirect before (wish I did). S0 I think I will try telling Google to delete the old URL.
Please see the attachment I am not sure what to tell Google.
Please stay tuned, Your help is amazing.
First you need to decide whether or not to do the 301 redirect. Then you have two options based on your decision:
1. With 301 redirect
Insert the following code into your .htaccess file in the root directory of your WebSite X5 project on your GoDaddy server (https://uk.godaddy.com/help/what-is-htaccess-2504):
RewriteEngine On
Redirect 301 /tru-line_laser_wheel_alignment_system.html /tru-line-laser-wheel-alignment-system.html
Then tell Google about your new page using the instructions in the following article:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9012289
2. Without 301 redirect
Delete the old page from your GoDaddy server: https://uk.godaddy.com/help/delete-files-or-folders-in-cpanel-hosting-16306
Tell Google that the page no longer exists: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en
Ask Google to crawl and index the new page: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9012289#request_indexing
That's it. Now all that's left to do is patiently wait for a a short while. Sometimes it takes a few days... sometimes less.
... Paul ......
... + another simple alternative; ... Windows Notepad, save as: OldNamePage.html
... paste this code:
<html> <head>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=NameNewPage.html" />
</head> <body></body></html>
... send the "OldNamePage.html" file on the net in the root of the Site with Filezilla, or with the FileManager of the server...
ciao
.
