Lost project file
Autore: Adam S.My network profile needed to be refreshed yesterday (RM CC4) and by doing so when I opened X5 it prompted me for the serial and registered email address. I was expecting this - what I wasn't expecting was X5 to show me a .iwzip file in the project selection screen from back in February this year! I have made massive changes to the website since then and this is an outdated file. Looking through my folders I have no data or backup files from after the february date.
How is this possible?
The last time I made an edit to the website was this Wednesday and that is what is live online right now. I don't understand how there is no record whatsoever of any other edits since February. Even when speaking to our backup facility, who can go back as far as July - they can only see the February iwzip project file.
Any ideas? Is there a way to generate a project file from the live website?
Adam, when you first open WX5, select preferences and set the destination folder to the same one you were previously using. It sounds like your default documents folder is a different one.
(if you are unlucky, the administrator has restored an old copy of your documents folder?)
Unfortunately it is not possible to regenerate a project from a published website.
I only work locally on my PC. This stops this type of situation occuring, is faster (no network access) and improves reliability.

Thanks for the help. I think I may have found the correct folder on my local disk but the backup files are .iwprj
Will I be able to restore the project from the most recent .iwprj backup file?
Yes, but only if you have the original project folder with files in it. Unlike an iwzip (which is a full backup), the standard backup is only of the most vulnerable (and largest) file. Success depends on having other files available that have not been corrupted.
If the folder you have found has content that looks like this
Simply go to preferences when WX5 starts and set the correct folder and you should be able to open your project
(sorry - I did not initially realise you were using such an old version)

The folder does look like that but it doesn't show the .iwprj files as it's only looking for .iwzip files.
What can I do to make it recognise the .iwprj project file?
You can import the iwzip files!
JJ.
Adam, if the screen capture is off your pc, change the default project folder to point at the folder above that folder, then simply open the project.
so if your project is called myproject, and the path to it is c:\documents\incomedia\website x5v11-evolution/myproject
Simply set the default folder to c:\documents\incomedia\website x5v11-evolution
