Fix Export/Import of Products in the Shopping Cart
Autore: Tom G.Please, take care of the import/export of products in Shopping Cart!
As of today (version 2020.1.10) import/export is working only “sometimes”. You cannot import directly from the edited file, exported in X5. You can check how frustrated the users are by looking into recent post:
Importing products via csv into product list
The procedure should be independent of the version of MS Excel – as some users pointed to in the mentioned post. Actually, the procedure should not depend on Excel at all, since not every WSX5 user has Microsoft Office installed.
It would be nice if the user could choose own separator. There are many characters that are less often used than the semicolon – like ‘~’ (tilde), ‘`’ (back apostrophe) or ‘|’ (vertical bar). But this part is not critical…
Critical is fixing the entire export/import procedure, so that we can use it without extra checking or editing.
Tom, I agree, The whole import /export is very cumbersome and time consuming. it definately requires some improvement either in the way of a guide to show the steps as the data from Most suppliers ( that i have found) require a lot of input from the user prior to trying to import into WX5. Even then it does not import.. even cutting and pasting into columns, and not touching headers, the prog. throws up errors that the headers are incorrect? Can someone from Incomedia have a look and get back to us? It would make life a whole lot less stressful especially for the ecommerce sites.

Any comments from Incomedia?
It is important issue to be fixed, and I think we deserve some kind of Incomedia response...
@Tom
Go to my site www.mygifts.co.za get my contact email there as I cannot give it to you here it will be blocked
I have been importing items daily and have not found anything wrong with the importing, maybe it’s something small I can help you with
I only use the CSV function because it way easier for me when making changes and added items.

Hey Guys,
First CSV import. remove the ID column.. the first one
When you export, the ID coloum is generated by the software to give a random ID to each item
If you would like reuse this imported file to add other items, remove again the ID...
The rule is to have no ID for new item !
Enjoy !

I THINK I FOUND AN ERROR IN EXPORT FILE!
The csv file uses both “,” (comma) and “;” (semicolon) as separators when exporting.
In my “Description” field, I have commas, and the line is separated on each of them!
When you edit the exported file in some text editor and save it as the import file - all works fine. But if you do it in Excel: separate into columns, edit, and save as .csv - the created import file will not be accepted.
Also, I am not sure if it matters, but the "Description" name is enclosed in quotes, when there is space as the first or last character.

Actually, WSX5 create export file correctly. But opening it in Excel, each comma in the "Description" is treated as a separator, so the line is not continuous in one cell, but is broken into number of cells - new for each comma. That, at least, happen in Excel 2019 which I am using.
So, in my case, I cannot use Excel to make editing easier, when there are commas in “Description”…
Hi Tom,
thank you for your Idea post, I have reported it as usually, so this can be taken into account for future developments.
Thanks! Kind regards.
