Navigation menu issue in v8

Hi there. I am having an issue with the navigation bar in version 8. My aim is not to have a vertical or horizontal menu but a block menu as can be seen on this website http://www.icon-architects.com/index.html I am not sure whether this can be done in this version as there is no option to disable the default (H/V) menus and they return whenever an file upload is made to the site. Does version 9 have this facility? or can you recommend a solution? Many thanks in advance and here is my current project http://www.oandkpropertyworks.co.uk/

Well, with Evo 8 and with Evo 9 you can create your pages, delete the page name in your sitemap and create your menu as graphics. Once you have created the 4 different buttons/images, you add them in your header and add a link from the image to the page.
It will then look like that is your menu, but the actual menu has been hidden.
