I have been unable to get the blog function to operate and have the error mesaage "ask the hosting provider...folder must have it's permission set at 777".
The hosting provider has responded with "Because we run suPHP, there's no need to set any permissions to 777 - your PHP scripts run under your username so the maximum permissions you need to set are 755" - which doesn't mean a great deal to me - where is the fault?

Greg yes it's confusing isn't it! If you don't understand this internet jargon just now (You have to learn about the server)

So where is the fault (or problem), with X5 or the Hosting Provider?
The Guestbook folder permissions should be set to 777 by you!!

Does this apply to the blog as well. Could you talk me slowly in detail through the process of setting the permission to 777.
Website X5 - do you have any input on this problem please.
OK I'll let the staff explain Greg.... as you are asking for their input!
Hi Greg,
Setting the permission for the blog's folder should be simple. If your hosting provider says that they're running suPHP, just connect to your webspace using an FTP client such FileZilla. Right-click on the blog's folder and select "Permissions" then write 777 (or 775) in the numeric field.
Make sure the blog's public folder set at step 4 is "blog" (without double quotes) and you're done.
