Unauthorised blog access in spite of password settings

I want to keep my blog strictly private for club members only to use but even though a password has to be entered access can still be gained via search engines. I don't want to have to scrutinise comments as they are all from a trusted source so I would like them posted straight away. Is there a way to hide a part or all of the sitemap from search engines? I only need our homepage visible to non members.

Hello Andy,
The blog cannot be blocked and protected with a password as usually a blog is a public part of websites. You can protect pages on WebSite X5 to be not accessible if you don't have a password with Men4 - Access Amangement - and then adding the login section with the HTML and Widget Object where you select the "Login" widget.
You can decide what has to visible in the Sitemap in Menu 2 selecting the page and then choose "Hidden Page in the Menu".

Thanks for that but I am familiar with what you describe and use those techniques on some areas in my website. The problem comes from 'malicious trawling' whereupon someone searches for any 'blog' via random index searches and unless it is scrutinised by an administrator first then adverse comments or worse can be posted direct to the blog, or restricted data can be seen which should not generally be shared with the public. Logically, if you can set up a blog to be scrutinised before comments are entered, then surely a password entry should be possible?
The password program simply replaces the administrator/mediator (I am not worried about comments and data postings from club members as they do not need to be approved. But I don't have alot of time to keep checking postings hence my question) Unfortunately I am not a programmer otherwise I would get to grips with it. Any other ideas?

Another solution would be to use the password protection with .htaccess and .htpasswd if your server is using apache. Unfortunately I cannot give you support on this.
I would suggest you to search on search engines like google how to use and configure .htpasswd function so that when the blog is opened the user is asked for a password.
