Templates and projects 
Autore: G. SilvaHello, I bought recently a licence of WebSite X5 Evolution 9 because I wanted to do a website. An amateur build website, for an association, more into information than design. Two days after I have already the most basic set-up done and I am happy with it: http://www.fpae.pt
I did chose Website X5 because I used to be mainly a Mac user (1993-2011), but switched to mainly Windows in January 2012. On the Mac I was used to RapidWeaver, and I liked it, and WebSite X5 is the most close to RapidWeaver in price, operation and features I could find. So far so good.
Now I have one question and one observation.
Question: What is really the difference between a project and a template? Today I downloaded a free template and it showed has a project, even it came with text and not displaying in the templates choice. In RapidWeaver when you got a template it come as the other templates, as a new choice, not like a project full of text you have to clean.
Observation: In the templates choice I don't see so many different templates. They are many, and they are good, but far from the 1500 advertised, lets be honest, please. Also I would like to find more templates with no kids pictures, I mean, a bit more striped down, more sober, more professional.
Anyway, fine, it is a nice piece of software and from what I read in this Forum I will get a free copy of WebSite X5 Evolution 10 when it arrives, it looks promising, so thanks in advance!

As you already saw, a project is a set of pages using a template. A template is the design that could be used with your site. Most templates sold are already made projects where you can copy/paste pages and use them with already created blocks.
As you already know you can delete pages and use the design provided inside projects.
About the templates included with WebSite X5 : if you count the 4 variations + the colors variations + the horizontal and vertical menus, you have the 1500 count.
If you want some good template you have two options : the one sold by Incomedia and the one solde by Silver (Template by Silver).

Ok, thank you for your answer. There are the templates embeded in the programme. I can transfer the contents of a website from one template to another by a single click, like I do in Rapid Weaver, ok? And then, there are the templates/projects downloadable, being sold (or offered for free). Those can't be embeded and one can't transfer contents automaticaly, right?
You are right : most templates currently sold are distributed as projects and you can't apply them on already made pages. You will have to create your pages again.
But, please remember you eventually can : preview an already made template and copy its images inside a folder, than create your own template for your project customizing the template used in your already made project.
That's how I do this : I open the project sold, I write down the dimensions for the header, the colors used than I preview and save the images. I close the project.
Than I open my project and customize my own template.

I see, thanks. The option of doing one's own template/project is a good feature of WebSite X5 Evolution, indeed it is, Rapid Weaver didn't had that, at least until recently. That feature gives a lot of options and flexibility.
