Version 10 is problematic and has been released far too early!  en

I am now beginning to realize that Incomedia have released yet another faulty and cumbersome version of WebsiteX5 in this new version10.

There is the usual "saving" and "memory" problems that those of us who have stuck with this company over the last few upgrades will remember so well!

This  "library" saving system is just a dressed up version of what used to happen in version8 and makes a large project almost impossible to manage.

The transfer of my v9 project to v10 is far from the easy and the smooth ride that one expects in a company that makes so many boasts and self praise!- is just non-existant!

YET AGAIN, Incomedia has released this v10 in a great rush...before important issues have been resolved and the Beta version has hardly had a chance to create good reports by would-be users.

I split my project into two parts so that I could create two IZIP export files to bring into v10 and then knit together.

As has been pointed out in my thread dealing with that issue, the image files do not "paste and copy" from one project part to the other because there are two separate libraries and the migration is impossible.

The same old "saving" and "memory problems"?

I have just transfered about 100 images back to the main part of my project only to find that the "Saving Project and updating files" progress bar gets stuck at 99%. (I left it ONE HOUR and it was still stuck so I had to force a shutdown which then meant I was faced with an age "Creating Project files" when I next opened the programme because of "not closing down properly".

Let me be blunt!

This "library" file saving idea is only as good as the theory that the user will not lose their files in the project; in practice it creates a massive extra burden on resources AS IT DID IN VERSION 8!

I have kept my files safe on my PC! Why should I bow down to some idiot who messes his PC up and loses them when they are in self-determined place?

My last groan, at this stage anyway, is the appalling amount of time it takes to get proper answers and proper resolutions from this board and/or customer service!

It can take a fortnight to get all the queries and answers!

All of my other software companies have good response times such that one can resolve an issue or have an impending programming solution within the one phone call and/or "live chat" corporate session.

Why not Incomedia?

Incomedia has been going long enough now to have these things in place!

I notice that there is very little in the way of customer remarks on this board about v10 and maybe that signifies that after the total nightmare of the v8 and v9 upgrades, serious people with seriously large websites have just simply gone elsewhere?

Thank you.

Thanks for a usefull post Nigel. I was contemplating an upgrade to V10, but the high cost of upgrade and the buggy nature of v10, changed my mind. I will stick to V9, and in the interim there are many other options out there, and many of these solutions are FREE. Incomedia should really get its act together, it seems to me its almost as if these releases, 2 yrs apart at 49 Euros, is purely to generate business, and not about offering an innovative solution to the users.

It is always a dilemma upgrading early on in a release!

If you wait a few months for most bugs to be rectified then you are not in the front line REPORTING your own bugs!

If you buy a release too early then you are faced with corporate inculpability with an upgrade that far from making things easier, delightful and pleasant is a white elephant in its most essential areas i.e. its ease of use.
