Guestbook cleanup and captcha protection failure  en

I just noticed v10 of WebsiteX5 has been released, with several updated features. For instance better captcha protection for the guestbook. I own v9, and my guestbook has been flooded with spam messages (2 messages every minute). After 14/3, no new messages came in anymore. But I suspect that's because of size restrictions; attempts to remove a message result in an empty screen. Reloading of the comments shows it's still there.

As this is just a major failure, which has been reported over and over in the forum, I'd suggest to make the improved feature available to v9 as well. I like to hear suggestions on how to clean my guestbook as well. A feature like "Select all" and using checkboxes to deselect the messages to keep might be handy here.

Hello,

It has been improved the guestbook of Version 9 too to prevent the spam in the previous update.

About the option to delete more messages at the same time you can write a suggestion with and "IDEA" Post which is constantly checked by the Developers to see how to improve the program or to find new features to add to it.

Please feel free to write back if you need more information.

Thanks Claudio for your reply. I can't test it though, as my guestbook seems to have reached its max size or so (is there any?). I can't add a new message anymore (from the site) and I can't remove an old one (from the admin section).
The site mentioned it as a feature of WebsiteX5 v10, and the improved captcha was not mentioned in the changelog for v9. That's why I asked.

I will post it as an idea, hopefully it gets picked up.

Hello,

There is no limit in entries. The only limit is the space in the folder where the comments are stored but this depends on the maximum size. Please check if the folder has still 777 rights because if you can't add or remove then this could be the cause.

Many thanks!

The rights were set correctly. I downloaded the guestbook file manually (something like gb34w242p7). This file was 10.170.544 bytes, so around 10MB. I edited the file, removing all spam-entries. The resulting file was 16.743 bytes. After uploading and replacing the old file, I can add new entries and mod them from the admin section. So it looks like there was a file size limit indeed.

No new spam messages are coming in, so either the spambot was stopped or the captcha does its job Wink.

Unfortunately the spambot is back up, with new entries every 12 minutes. So apparently the improved captcha is not that effective... Frown

Hello,

Can you please post me the link to the guestbook? Have you tried to make some exports so that the program adds more captcha letters to see if it stops it?

Many thanks!

Sure, the guestbook is at http://www.sie-sagen-ja.at/gastenboek.php I changed the code so I have to approve a new message before it shows up though, so not sure whether you can see something from it?

Not sure what you mean with making some exports. I updated WebsiteX5 and re-uploaded the site, so I think the improved captcha should be in place?

Hello,

Everytime you export the same project again other captcha letters are added so that it get's more complex with every export. Please let me know if this stops the entries.

Many thanks!
