In the custom template section, there are at start no templates. It's a place where you store your own created templates, and then you can start using it in your project.

Let me now if you need more help.

Also try the F1 button in X5 for help.

Hello Andre, I forgot to mention that I have been working with X5 for a year now and I have created over 60 webpages for my clients, every web page has it's own custom template and yesterday every single one of them (custom template) vanished from the program so it's like hell for me to recreate each one from scratch.

I know that the program stores the custom templates in the path I mentioned in the 1st post and I can still see the folders (of the custom templates) and the files inside them so I think that, somehow, the program just erased/reset whatever file makes the connection between the progran and the custom template list.

If I create a new custom template it is saved and it shows correctly, so, any idea about what happened?

Luis,

I will check the path an routing later at my own pc, for now: I see that you are already a few steps further.

But just a thought (I haven't tryed this myself)

Do you have backup projects? The templates are saved in them as well.

Open a second x5 v10 on your pc, and import the backup, this will import the template as well. make a backup of the template to desktop. You can then import it in your normal and latest project (the other x5 program). It's a bit of work but I guess with so many site you have backup for sure. And this saves up creating them all over gain.

For one thing I'm curious, is the newly made template in the same path that you can see the others?

If so you might have lost a control file (index.xml). That could then be the reason....

Goodluck !

Yeah I had backed up most of them and I was able to recover some of the templates the way you recomended, as for the projects I hadn't back up (fool of me to trust eyes shut to x5 hehehe!) I did the following:

1.- I selected the project and created a new custom template

2.- Went to the folder where all the custom templates are stored

3.- Found the new template and copied the ID (the name of the folder)

4.- Took the files of the lost template (lost only in x5 as all the custom template folders are well placed)

5.- I copied/replaced the files in the new template folder and hand edited the xml of the old one to add the new code ID in the places it is suppused to be and BAM!  THE CUSTOM TEMPLATE IS BACK! (with a new id that is now recognized in X5)

So it has to be a problem with X5 where it just lost/deleted/corrupted a config file that makes it recognize the custom templates ID name, I have searched and I'm not the first one in having this issue and think is a fatal bug in the program, i'm aware that we must alway back up our projects, but it would be nice to know what's the file that makes the connection between X5 and the custom templates so I would like to keep on searching and getting feed back from you or other users about that especific question:

what's the file that makes the connection between X5 and the custom templates?

Best regards and I appreciate your help

Edit: It seem to be the file that is located here:

C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v10 - Evolution\Libraries\templates.xml

Yes that's the file.

If you back it up.

then open it with excel and try to add the lost templates it might work. but I have never done this so, maka a backup of the file and try it.

I would suggest also make backups of your projects and templates to be sure.....

Yeah I made back up of every project and template just in case, it would be nice to know what causes this critical bug, but I guess that won't happen, so, if anybody comes to this post looking for help, just do what I did to recover the templates and be sure to make a backup of every project... and every time you do an update.

The file that gave me this error (got deleted) was the one located here:  C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v10 - Evolution\Libraries\templates.xml

Be sure to make a backup of that file sometimes, you never know :)

Regards.
