Hi,
I have recently upgraded to Evolution 11. Everything has been good til I tried to upload to the server. I am getting the message 'generic error' I have contacted the host and everything seems to check out at their end so they advised me to contact the people who provided the software. I have looked at similiar posts but not been able to rectify the problem. I have also tried adding (/) or (\) before/after the domain name in the destination folder as this has worked in the past but to no avail. Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you
Karen

Hello Karen,
Your issue sounds slightly different to the other teething problems at the export stage in version 11.
For diagnostic purposes can you try doing an upload with your antivirus and firewall package(s) very briefly switched off? I'm not proposing this as a solution, but it would be helpful to see if you can then connect to your server.
Also, can you double-check very carefully your FTP details: Address, Username, Password in Step 5... just to absolutely rule out any mis-typed characters... it's so easily done when setting up new software.
Lastly, at what point do you get the 'Generic Error'? Is it as soon as you click 'Next' on the first export screen in Step 5, or do you manage to get through to the next screen? In other words can you see your files and folders in the server directory on the subsequent screen? If not, then please remove any entry in the 'Destination folder' field and try clicking 'Next' again.
I've probably made that about as clear as mud... my apologies!
Kind regards,
Paul

Hello Paul,
Thank you for you quick reply, I have tried disabling the anti-virus and firewall. I double checked the FTP details with the server, even changing my password again. I get the message when the connection to the server is being made. I click 'next' on the export to internet screen, a little box comes up saying 'starting connection' it disappears and another comes up saying 'unable to connect to server' 'Generic Error.
Don't know what else I can do :/
OK Karen, thanks for a very clear reply.
Can I ask when was the last time you made a successful connection to this particular server? Were you using it recently for your v8 project?
Can you connect to the server using exactly the same FTP credentials in version 8? Or using a free FTP program like FileZilla:
https://filezilla-project.org/
I may be wrong, but my hunch is that this is not directly related to WebSite X5 as such, but is more a server configuration problem. Happy to work with you as far as I can to resolve it.
Kind regards,
Paul

I have just tested uploading my V8 website to the server and all went well.
I have been using FTP 'iis138.opentransfer.com' on V8 but when this didn't work in V11, I changed it to FTP: iis138.ixwebhosting.com as advised by the host. The only thing that is changed is the destination folder. We also tested the connection both ends.
File Zilla is not something I'm familiar with, is it easy to use?
No need to bother with FileZilla, Karen, now that you have verified that your v8 project connects to the server OK.
Can you confirm that at present your FTP address in Step 5 of version 11 is exactly as follows:
iis138.ixwebhosting.com (Note that the letters 'ftp' are not included in the address as such... in other words, NOT ftp:iis138.ixwebhosting.com)
What's the domain name for the v11 site you're working on?
I am facing the same problem. Not uploading either. Ugraded from Version 10
Hello Hemant, your error message was different to Karen's. I think Karen may have a configuration issue. Can we continue troubleshooting your own issue on your own thread?

Omg, I feel like such an idiot, I had copied and pasted the ftp details and accidently copied the letters 'ftp'! That's why it didnt upload, god if I ask for help again, you're gonna know exactly what you're dealing with! lol
Sorry for wasting your time but thank you very much for your help
Feeling very embarrassed
Karen
No need to feel embarrassed, Karen... none whatsoever... we are all human and it wouldn't have been the first time I had done something like that myself
I had a hunch it wasn't to do with the X5 program as such... glad all is well now!
Please feel free to ask for further help at any time... we are always learning!
All the best,
Paul
