My site aims to help foreigners with 'English pronunciation.' Hence there are lots and lots of audio links. Unfortunately, since updating the site to the newest version of Website 5 my audio links no longer play automatically. Instead, after clicking the audio link a little program bar appears and you then have to press play to hear the sound. This happens on my computer and also on my ipad. I need the links to play automatically. How do I achieve this, please ? My site address is www.englishprof.it in case you want to check what happens. Thank you for your kind help.

Rachel,
I assume you checked the settings in X5 for Autoplay is on ?
Can you please check this first or let us know if it's set to on ?
Also please provide a site adress with direct link, I checked three pages and did not find the mentioned program bar. But I probably opend exactly the wrong ones, something I am good in :).
Thanks !

Hi,
Thank you for responding so quickly. The website address is www.englishprof.it
When you open a main page the main page sound works automatically. But, within the main page there are many other audio links and it is these that do not play automatically. As far as I am aware, it is not possibile to set these for Autoplay.
For example, if you go to the third page, 'Mission 123'. (you will hear the audio countdown when the page opens). Scroll down under the main image and you will find a table of numbers. Click on a number. You should hear the number. This is what happened in my first purchased version of Website 5 evolution (version 9). Instead, you will probably just see the program bar. The sound of the number will not be played automatically.
Your help is really appreciated ! Thank you !!
Hello Rachel,
On mobile devices the autoplay is not allowed. If you set a song to autoplay and you open it on an apple device it will not work since the operating system will block it. Also on newer android devices this has been forbidden because the user has to decide if he wants to use the bandwidth to play it or not.
On the computer the autoplay works but in your case it seems to need specific plugins because of the audio file format used.
I would suggest you to generate mp4 audio files with following codec and settings:
MPEG-4 AAC 441000Hz Stereo
If you use propietary codecs like quicktime it will be necessary to have this plugin installed on the browser and to allow it to play the files. If you use a standard audio format then this will be played automatically and on most devices.
Many thanks!

Hi
The files are already M4A (MPEG 4 audio) stereo 441000hz. I have also tried substituting them for MP3 and WAV but I still get the same problem. My version 9 of Website Evolution worked perfectly with both wav and MP3 so I can't understand what has changed and why the audio files are not working automatically with this newest version. Any ideas ?
Thank you

Another thought. Why do the main page audio insertions work automatically and correctly but the audio links within the page do not ? I have used M4A (MPEG 4 audio) AAC stereo 441000hz throughout the entire site. I am beginning to wonder whether there may be an instruction written into the Evolution 11 and Evolution 10 program versions causing this, an instruction that wasn't written into version 9. I have attached a jpg file showing the two audio insertion methods used - 1. a main page insertion and 2. an audio link within the page. It is the second way of creating the audio link that is causing problems. Hopefully it will make what I'm trying to explain more clear. I hope it helps !
Hello Rachel,
The 'Sound' hyperlink supports only audio files in MP3 format, as opposed to the Video/Audio Object which can support many other formats.
The program bar and play/pause buttons cannot be disabled when using the 'Sound' hyperlink.
The following extract from the help file expands on this:
"You can create a link to generate sound. To choose the audio file to link to, select Local File on PC and click on the to browse through the resources on your computer, or select Internet file and type in the URL address that locates it on the Internet. You can link files in .MP3 format.
When a visitor clicks on the link a Tooltip opens and shows the Play/Pause button to start/stop the audio. When the mouse cursor is moved out of the Tooltip, the popup window is closed and the sound stops."
The full page is available to read here:

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Paul
The program bar and play/pause buttons cannot be disabled when using the 'Sound' hyperlink.
This is exactly what I feared ! It renders my site useless in this new version of the program and renders my purchase of this updated version a complete waste of money: I can no longer achieve (sound-wise) what I created with the original version 8 of the program. I don't even want to start thinking of the hours I have put in and will have to put in to make my site work again. Being an educational website on pronunciation the handling of audio files is everything ! It seems I am left with two options 1. to reinstall my old version 8 of Website 5 (where the appearence of this sound bar didn't exist and the audio part of my site worked perfectly) which I am loathe to do as it is now outdated. 2. stop using Website 5 and find a new program. It's a huge disappointment though. I have just one final question before I give up - Is there any chance the programmers can write a code into the current program so that the program bar and play/pause buttons can be disabled ?
Thanks for your help Paul. You've been really kind. My disappointment is with the new version of the program, not you. Your helpdesk service is first rate. Best wishes, Rachel
I understand both your disappointment and your dilemma, Rachel. We will ask Incomedia if there is any way round the issue. Please continue to watch this thread for an official response from them.
Fingers crossed!
Paul
Hello Rachel,
already in Version 9 this function has been changed to show the pay/pause bar since on mobile devices there cannot be a sound which is played automatically but it needs to show the controlbar otherwise it will be blocked.
If you would use version 8 on mobile devices it would also not work since the operating system would block the sound function if there are not controlbars.
Many thanks!

Hello Claudio
As I have never actually operated my EnglishProf site on version 9 it's never been an issue for me. On purchasing the latest version I did then have to transfer my site from 8 to 9 but only as a means to converting it into the newest version. Otherwise, the newest version couldn't see the website load icon.
At this stage the most important thing is that my site works on a normal computer or laptop. If it didn't work on a mobile device this really wouldn't be the end of the world for me.
So if there is another way round the issue that would be fantastic. If not, then I am back to the drawing board unfortunately.
Kind regards
Rachel
Hello Rachel,
At the moment not because the function has been changed and it is no longer possible to have an autoplay when using this function.
You can check if there is a custom html code to have a function similar to what you are looking for which needs then to be added in the HTML&Widget object in step 3.
Unfortunately I cannot t give support to third party custom code but I can explain you how to add it in WebSite X5.
Many thanks!
