I have been using Website X5 Home 10. Since I'm constantly bombarded with upgrade ads for Website X5 Evolution 11 - and because I need more functionality - I decided to give it a try via the "11 Free" downloadable.

Selecting a project to import works fine, but trying to load it for editing is another matter. A window opens as follows:

Window Title: Incomedia WebSite X5 Free
Window Text: ILEX FARMS MAIN (1) 3 1       [or other Project/version title]
The specified Project cannot be opened because it was created with a later edition of WebSite X5 (Home).

The actual error window is viewable at these links:

--- or ---

The error is consistent with each and every differently named previous versions of the website.

Please correct this issue, or let me know a way around it, so that I can decide on a possible upgrade to WebSite X5 Evolution 11.

Hello Dan,

Projects created in the "paid-for" versions of WebSite X5 cannot be opened in the Free version, as the Free version is a stripped down edition which lacks support for the more advanced functions and objects.  This is not a bug.

You can instead download a demo version of WebSite X5 Evolution 11:

You can save up to 10 pages in the Demo version.  Export options are disabled.

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks, Paul, but Import options are disabled too - same as in the free version!

I have downloaded and installed both the Evolution 11 and the Professional 11, with similar results to the free version. In these cases, the error message is different, but occurs immediately upon clicking the Import button: "This function is not available in this version of WebSite X5."

Thanks for whatever good intentions you may have had, Paul, but this has just been a colossal waste of my time. I don't want to create a new website just for the purpose of possibly seeing what it might have been able to do with an existing website. I need to load an existing website or project into the program to see how it may help accomplish upgrading said existing website.

As of this moment, I cannot see any value to wasting more time with WebSite X5 and their rather "fake" paranoid trial versions that won't even allow a person to load an existing project created on a different version of their own software.

I would have thought that Incomedia could use more customers who like and use their product line. Unfortunately, their approach is costing them customers who might have upgraded, spending more money. At this point, after all the time I've wasted, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Best regards,

Dan
