How to have website description in title on home page?  en

I have recently published my new site I created for my business via websitex5. I really do like it and am glad I found the software. However, I do have a question. I have noticed that when I do a Google keyword search for my business's criteria, my website will come up with just the name of my business and not the rest of the home page title. I have created a website title in the "general" settings and also within the home page properties of websitex5.

Here is a screenshot, as an exmple, to show you what I mean. This is a search result with my business and other businesses for the same keyword criteria.

Hello Michael,

Unfortunately you can't 'force' Google to display what you would like in its search results: however, you can heavily influence the results and snippets, and you appear to be doing everything correctly from looking at your source code.

Have you only recently made the changes to your website title, etc.?  It can take quite some time for the effect of this to filter through.

If you want to expedite the process then resubmit your sitemap to Google in the Search Console (https://support.google.com/sites/answer/100283?hl=en), and use 'Fetch as Google' (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/googlebot-fetch) to resubmit your homepage to the index.  Other than that you will just have to be patient, I'm afraid.

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks for the answers. Unfortunately, I do not think it is a Google problem because it has found my pages and will display them in search results (if it was a Google problem it wouldn't even find or display my pages). In fact, if it displays one of my pages, other then the home page, the page description or title is there in the results. Only the home page has this issue, so I was thinking it was a websitex5 coding problem.

Yes, I have submitted my website to be crawled by Google and Bing and have also submitted my sitemap more than once. I use both Google Analytics & Goolge Serach Console and also Bing Analytics to monitor and configure my website for their serach engines. I am not trying to "force" Google to find my website or page, as it already has. I just want the home page to display the title or description in the Google results, as almost every other website does. Thanks again for the help.

It is definitely a Google issue, Michael.  Google will constantly revise and update what they show in their search results for your site.

...if it was a Google problem it wouldn't even find or display my pages.

That's not correct.  Please see the following official Google article for a better understanding of how Google formulates its search results:

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en

In particular please note the following extract:

If we’ve detected that a particular result has one of the above issues with its title, we may try to generate an improved title from anchors, on-page text, or other sources. However, sometimes even pages with well-formulated, concise, descriptive titles will end up with different titles in our search results to better indicate their relevance to the query. There’s a simple reason for this: the title tag as specified by a webmaster is limited to being static, fixed regardless of the query. Once we know the user’s query, we can often find alternative text from a page that better explains why that result is relevant. Using this alternative text as a title helps the user, and it also can help your site. Users are scanning for their query terms or other signs of relevance in the results, and a title that is tailored for the query can increase the chances that they will click through.

If you’re seeing your pages appear in the search results with modified titles, check whether your titles have one of the problems described above. If not, consider whether the alternate title is a better fit for the query. If you still think the original title would be better, let us know in our Webmaster Help Forum.

Including only the website title?

My website page titles show up in the searches just fine. Wonder why Google can find all of my page titles and the only thing it can't find is my homepage title?

My question is how do I format or configure websitex5 to display a page title? I thought I have already done all of that in the program, but this clearly shows there is a problem.

There is no problem within WebSite X5.  If you view the source code of your homepage you will see that the title is there exactly as you specified within the software.

WebSite X5 can't influence what Google chooses to display in its search results, as per the article I linked to in my last post.  WebSite X5 simply generates the HTML, and once this is crawled by the Googlebot you are then at the mercy of the algorithm.

The 'title' which appears in Google's search results could change at any time, even depending on the query that a user entered into the Google search box.

If you change any page 'title' in WebSite X5, it can take a LONG time for that to be reflected in the search results, if at all.  Again it is up to Google what they show.

I think you are confused in thinking that Google can't find your homepage title.  It may well already have found it, but just decided to display a different one, for the time being at least.

Then why is Bing telling me I don't have a title as an SEO issue (see attachment)?

I did notice I had the "extended page title" selected from the website's home page in the "Map Creation" properties section and when I viewed my site's page source, it had both that and the title in the "general settings" listed, making the title too long (that was also listed as an issue with Bing SEO - "SEO Suggestion The title is too short or too long.").

So I am hoping that removing (unchecking the box) the "extended page title" on the home page helps resolve the issue (I uploaded the changed site a few minutes ago to my web host), as I knew it was not a Google or Bing issue, but a website issue. My question now is why are there two places within websitex5 to place a main or home page title and which one is the proper one to use ("general settings" or "extended page title" in the Home page properties of the "Map Creation" section)?

The screenshot from Bing is not related to titles:  it is referring to the meta description tag, which is a separate matter entirely.

If you have now added meta descriptions to each page then you may have to wait a considerable period of time before they show in the search results.  As previously stated, the wheels move very slowly in search engine land.

The 'WebSite Title' in General Settings is the title which will appear in the browser address bar.  This has nothing to do with the titles which the bots will crawl, unless you specifically request that this title be appended as per Step 4 Advanced Settings > Statistics, SEO and Code > Basic tab > Automatic heading tag management

Automatic heading tag management: this option defines how H1 and H2 heading tags are to be handled when the website's page code is created. You can choose from:

H1 for page title: if the title,or extended title, that was given to a page when creating the map, has been made visible (see Text Style), this is used for the H1 tag.

H1 for heading and H2 for page title: the H1 tag value is taken from the page title that is followed by the website title, separated by a hyphen (H1 = "Page Title -  Website Title"). The H1 tag is added to the page code and linked to the heading in the template. The page title, or extended title, is also used in the H2 tag.
