update x5 to the latest version maybe that helps.

Else try using your old one to create a backup / export of your project if possible.

If you have it you might want to check the automatic backup function.

Thank you, I have updated but the files are on my crashed computer, I only have what I now realise is the shortcut from a memory stick, so nothing is bringing my website back on this new pc.

Michelle, can you restart your old PC even in safe mode? If so you could copy the project folder to a USB drive and then transfer the contents to your new PC.  If that doesn't work you could download a bootable CD and then find your project. One example that I use is Hiren's Boot CD available at http://downloads.tomsguide.com/Hiren-s-Boot-CD,0301-51033.html

If your old hardware will not allow you to boot and access the hard drive, then the only solution may be to remove the hard drive, connect it to your new pc via a dock or other usb solution and copy your files.

If none of these solutions are available (failed HD perhaps?), the only way may be to recreate your website  by copying content from the published site back to your pc.

Michelle, did you successfully copy the project directory across to your new laptop into the correct location? If so, have you tried highlighting the project, clicking on backup and then if one exists, redo?
