I wish to add a dropdown list only on a particular page to enable people to access older files that i wish to archive and not have all these links visible on the page.
I know I could just add a new level on the main menu but i wish to include this seperately.

Hello lucky
One way could be that you on the page made a text like :
Get access to old-files-archive
Then on the text old-files-archive you had a link to a hidden page.
In link-page you had links to the files OR if you have many files you could simply have the "first" page to have for example 6 links, and each of these links directs to pages with links to the files.
This way you could have the archive as "normal" pages, but people will only see the pages when they click on the old-files-archive link.
You could have a "back-button" on the hidden pages, but it will maybe not be needed as also the hidden pages will have the main menu.
If you want to completely "hide" the pages with archive links, then you could make an archive site in a sub-folder, and then have the link direct to the home-page in this subfolder. Here you can have a complete archive atructure independent of your "head" site. You could have a separate main-menu and so.
There could be other ways, but the simplest will be with the hidden pages I think.
If you have many files in your archive, you could consider the sub-site.
Hope this helps you.
Kind regards

1.> Step 3 - Map | Commands in the toolbar | Hidden Page in the Menu (or level)
2.> Step 2 - Template > Customization > Page Menu Style
WebSite X5 also proposes:
▪ displaying context menus on the left or on the right of the page, selecting the Show Page Menu option in the Step 2 - Page Menu Style window;
