PHP Session variables are not being set via ajax post

I have tried several approaches to setting a PHP session via AJAX - everything looks fine in developer tools but the session is not being set....

Selecting a state is supposed to set the session in set_2_session.php
This is not happeneing as expected ... would appreciate a fresh set of eyes to help me with this issue.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with the use of custom code, but if you have any doubts or issues on how to add them in the pages you made with WebSite X5 you can ask me.
