Solution for using Website X5 on OS X when required  en

I have successfully installed Website X5 on a Mac.

Procedure:

- Install Oracle VM VirtualBox (advantage: it's free!) on your Mac.

- Create a Machine in VMVB. I used Windows 7 64 bit.

- Learn how to use VMVB to install Windows inside the Machine. Either use an install DVD or an ISO of Windows. As my Macbook has no DVD, I put an ISO on a USB key and mounted the ISO as the Virtual CD/DVD.

- Once your Machine is working with your copy of Windows, make sure you install NET Framework 4.6.1.

- If your install is working, and the Mac has access to the net, your Windows machine will also have access to the net. Do the updates until there is none to be installed (it can take some time!).

- Install Website X5, register it as usual. Et voilà! Working fine on your Mac.

- You can display the virtual machine in full screen, which helps with working on developing your website.

- To ease copying documents between your Mac and the VM, you need to setup a Shared folder that will appear as a drive inside the VM.

Many thanks

Great tip for those who need it, but I still cannot afford a Mac :-(

This morning, I tried using CrossOver, which has the benefit of not requiring a full install of Windows. However, it did not work.

First, I installed a bottle containing NET Framework 4.6.1. In that same bottle, I installed the C++ runtime and WX5. The installation went fine and I was able to register W5X. However, the app itself does not work on the Mac, it launches then quits, even though the updater app does work.

Francois - this is way to heavy for me (a Windows user). I am surprised crossover doesn't work because I have a friend using a mac with crossover and an old version of WX5. None the less, VirtualBox works, what more would you need :-)
