X5 Evolution became very slow after saving project  en

Greetings X5 Support,

I've been playing around with the X5 software. The free demo proved it could make a nice usable webpage. I went ahead and grabbed the X5 Evolution 14 software. Things were going great, I was designing a website based off one of the free templates. I could edit fields, quickly preview the page to see how it was coming along, I was pleased.

After a while I saved the project, then contiuned to make edits. Then the software become very unresponsive. I've since closed the program, rebooted, nothing has brought the snappyness back. Generating a preview takes minutes now, it used to take second(s). I literally make an edit, then switch to browsing the web, and check back to see if X5 has unfroze. Almost everything has slowed to a crawl. Have you seen this before? Any suggestions?

It is updated to the most current version. Grabbed a new update today even (1/16/18).

Thanks for your help,

Phillip

Phillip, what are you editing?

I am currently working on a large responsive website, certain changes to the heading can test my patience, as can adding or moving slide shows or restructuring a page. I assume the delay is because of the multiple resolutions the program needs to account for in the preview, and in the case of headers and footers, the time it takes to generate replacements for every page when previewing.

I have found that turning off responsive when in development mode can speed things up dramatically, and I have also found that the "snappy" response returns when what I am changing affects only the current page. You might also like to press save before previewing.

Please advise if this is of no assistance.

I had checked 'Save at every preview' earlier, figured this was a harmless way of saving changes, but I had turned that off during the slow performance to no help. I tried turning off Responsive and set it to Desktop optimization, but that also has made no improvement. I just closed a page preview after it cranked for over a minute and never loaded, and will possibly have to force close the program as it isn't responding.

It gives some notice of 'fake font' when loading the project. I was trying to close and reopen the project, but X5 has still hung, so I'll kill it via task manager and try again.

Everytime I load:

New Project

Some fonts used in this document have not been linked to the project:

fakeFont.

They will be replaced by the template's default font.

I don't recall changing anything but font size, not sure I've changed the font type at all. And this is a small site I'm working on with only simple textbased features so far. It's looking like I may have to scrap the project and try again. Working on the current site has become near impossible.

Phillip, since you are having this difficulty, can I recommend you go to step5 Export, and select Export the Project, in case of catastrophe this will give you a fall back position (note that if you wish to do this often, rename the resultant iwzip because otherwise it will be over written next time you create one).

Is this a new project, or did you import it from Start or some other source? (I am aware of one other post where there was unexplained behaviour and the user ultimately started again which resolved the issue).

In V14, google and webfonts are linked to the project, not the program, so whatever fonts you have used will need to be attached. Simply go to any object that allows you to select a font, click the down arrow next to the font name, select other font types. If it is possible, I strongly suggest Google Fonts is the best solution.

If your project is not large, it would be my advise to start again. Please note that you can have 2 copies of WX5 running simultaneously, so you can copy cell content (or copy from preview) between projects.

If you experience any further issues, please advise. I have worked with WX5 for many editions (V8 -> V14), I have normally only experienced poor performance issues when upgrading between versions and then taking advantage of new features, considering some of my sites have lived through 5 or more versions I am constantly amazed at how few issues I experience.

Sorry you are experiencing issues.
