Facebook Plugin not working - and gallery and form captcha also not working properly  en

I have the website www.cottonmouth.uk for my band. I set it up originally with WebsiteX5 version 9 (or thereabouts) and the three facebook links on the front page worked fine. Similarly, on the gallery page, clicking on any photo produced a larger image but all that are there now are the thumbnails. Finally, there are no characters now visible above the captcha box on the contacts page. I am currently using WebsiteX5 version 13.

All this worked fine until earlier this year but I have now realised there is a serious problem here.  In attempt to sort this out, I have downloaded a trial version of X5v16. This does not seem to work either - at least as far the facebook plugin is concerned. Look at www.deuchars.org.uk/band/cottonmouthtemp/ however; the captcha letters do appear and the form works. (I suspect the gallery would also work again in this version but I haven't yet tried.)

So, these problems do seem to be browser dependent. My default browser is Seamonkey (a firefox derivative). I have also tried Firefox proper - but get the same problems. However, in my old Opera browswer (version 12.18) and internet explorer 11, everything works perfectly :-)

So, I do not know if it is updates to v13 that have caused this problem - but certainly v16 does not have all the answers!

Please advise, Chris d

Hi Chris.

Did you perhaps already had the chance to perform some fix to your website?

I tried to visit the contact page from Chrome, IE, Firefox, and Edge too, and I can successfully see the Captcha just everywhere. Both on the online version and the other link you posted:

The same goes for the Facebook plugins.

What page exactly is giving you these issue?

Please keep me posted here

Thank you

Stefano

No, I haven't done anything as yet.

As I said in my OP, the captcha box seems to work ok in version 16 but the facebook plugins do not! Can you see the embedded fb feed at www.deuchars.org.uk/band/cottonmouthtemp/ ? (For info, it should be to the left of the captcha box etc) This is X5 v16 trial version.

Then, if you look at www.cottonmouth.uk - the front page has the fb feed on the left below the text - but above the instagram logo. Across from it on the right should be two fb buttons for 'like' and 'follow'. This was built with X5 v13

I realised after the OP that I had reported a similar problem with an earlier version of X5 (11 or 12?) which was on Win7 without SP1. I had to reformat my machine and install Win7 with SP1 to run v13 - ater which I thought all was ok for a while - but its certainly not now!  (in all case btw the 'preview' works!)

I need this to work otherwise I'm afraid its a deal breaker for me...

Hi Chris.

I believe I can see the box feed alright in your homepage, as well as the two buttons I believe:

Is this not working right for you? I've tested this with multiple browser, and I believe I can see them just fine in all of them.

About the demo version, the fact that some functionalities are not working could be that you're actually uploading preview files for the project instead of the real one, since the Demo version won't allow you to export online.

Please double check this and keep me posted on the issue. Also remember that SeaMonkey is not of the main browsers in use, and thus might present small differences in rendering from the big ones that aren't sure to work just the same, and for which compatibility isn't guaranteed.

Thank you

Stefano

But can you see it using Firefox (in any form)?

That seems to be the question!

Hi Chris.

Yes, I can confirm that, as you can see from my screenshot.

I am aware of the fact that Firefox installations might something turn on a certain antitracking system by default, which can interfere with the Facebook plugin functionality. This depends on the user's browser though.

Do you perhaps have the chance to verify this from a different pc running Firefox?

Keep me posted

Thank you

Stefano

Ok, thanks, I made the comment because I didn't know which browser you were using.

However, it does not explain why my newly installed, straight out of the tin, version of Firefox does not show the facebook plugins.

Neither (I have just noticed) does my android 7 mobile phone.

Maybe if I try again by embedding the code rather than using your plugins...?

I need to get to the bottom of this somehow.

Hi Chris.

As mentioned by me, I tested on almost every browser on pc, and it seems to work just fine. Could you also try from different computers?

I also tested on Mobile. I can confirm that it is displayed correctly through Chrome and Safari, so it would really seem like a browser specific issue but for some devices only.

Please check other devices as mentioned by me. If you happen to find more which won't display this information, let me know the browser version they're using as well as which browser that it

Keep me posted on this so that we might get it sorted out

Thank you

Stefano

Ok, I have a partial answer - but not a solution.

It is the tracking protection in Firefox (and therefore its derivatives including Seamonkey) that stops the X5 facebook plugins from appearing.

If this is enabled/disabled (for the site/pages) then the content disappears/reappears accordingly.  This applies to both my copies of X5 Evolution v13 and trial version of X5 Evolution v16.  Surely this should not happen?

In either case, (and both versions) firefox also complains that my website is 'insecure'. I do not know why this is - nor how to correct it - since the only information I am (knowingly) collecting is the responses to legitimate form information which users do not have to even complete unless they want a response!  Is this another separate issue with X5 or is it part of the same issue?

Chris

Ps. The above relates to both the main site at www.cottonmouth.uk (X5v13) and the temporary page at http://www.deuchars.org.uk/band/cottonmouthtemp/ (X5v16) where you will now potentially see two version of the facebook plugin above each other on the left. The upper one is the 'proper' X5 facebook (iframe) plugin whilst the lower one is the same iframe posted into an 'html' cell.

Hi Chris.

Unfortunately, since Firefox is the only browser that implemented this anti-tracking system, there seems to be no way around it if not to deactivate this in order for the Facebook plugin to show correctly. This being a default functionality of the Browser, it will not be possible for the software to intervene on this.

About the nonsecure message, this is due to the fact that no SSL certificate (HTTPS) is currently active on your website. You can request this for free to some hosting or for a fee on others, and this will certify your website as secure, thus displaying the appropriate message to users. I suggest you consult your hosting provider for this

Let me know if I can provide any further information on this

Thank you

Stefano
