Htaccess File  en

My SEO guys sent me an htaccess file to upload to my root directory. Every time I update my website the software warns me that it overwrites the htaccess file. Is there a way that I can copy the settings they sent me into the software to avoid this happening?

Hello Francos,

You can upload the .htaccess file which you have been given using either an FTP client or the built-in FTP engine within WebSite X5.  If using the latter option then see the screenshots below:

Click on the first icon highlighted in red (in Step 5) to browse the directory structure on your server, and click on the second to select your .htaccess file to upload it.  It should be uploaded to the root folder of your WebSite X5 project.

Please note that you will need to add a single period to the filename before it will work on your server:

i.e.  .htaccess NOT htaccess

Once you've done this then you can carry on using WebSite X5 as normal, with regular uploads, etc.  -  WebSite X5 doesn't replace existing .htaccess files...  it merely edits them, appending text as necessary.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi, I understand that but then presumably every time I make a change to the site I need to upload the file. Is there no way of incorporating these settings in the app to avoid having to do this. If not no problem, was just wondering?

No, your understanding is not quite correct in that respect.

WebSite X5 will not 'interfere' with your .htaccess file in any way, other than to append or remove its own code.

Your other entries will remain untouched.
