Hi I am a new user of website x5 evo.
I want documents on the website that my clients can download and print if they want to. when I use a button with a hyperlink to a document it is a document that is local to my pc. what will happen when I ftp the website up to the host server, will it include the documents somehow ? if not how do I get them up to the site once its on the host. In previous web building software I have used you uploaded the documents into the web building software and it included them when it was ftp'd to the host. any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello Pamela, welcome to WebSite X5
If you set a link using the action 'File or URL' > 'Local File on PC' then the software will take care of the document upload automatically for you. It will be included in your next FTP upload without you having to do anything else.
WebSite X5 stores documents uploaded in this way in a subfolder within the root folder of your project on the server. The subfolder is called files.
Kind regards,
Paul

thank you so much Paul. I thought that might be the case but it wasnt obvious. Just another quick one, when I have done the links how can I make them so that the client can download and print instead of just viewing the documents. thanks in advance.
This depends largely on the browser your client is using, and on how their browser is set up to handle links. At least, that is the case with regards to links generated automatically by WebSite X5.
In my opinion the most foolproof solution (when using WebSite X5 generated links) would be to compress the documents in question, as the various browsers will always download zipped files.
Otherwise you could resort to creating your links 'manually' in WebSite X5, and entering them as HTML code. If you decide to do this then you should format the links according to the instruction in this article:
How to create a download link with HTML
Hope this helps.

Hi Pamela C,
Perhaps the Download Button object from the marketplace would meet your needs.
