This video can't be played in this browser. Try using a different browser.  en

I have tried many times to insert and view a video in .mp4 format from my PC to Website X5 but always received an error message saying  «This video can't be played in this browser. Try using a different browser.» The same happens regardless of the browser used (e.g. Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer). As stated on a previous thread on this issue, I can confirm the .mp4 was successfully uploaded on the server (\public_html) at at the end while exporting files. However, when I checked the site got the same error message over a black rectangular background whose dimensions seem to correspond to the ones of the video. By the way, the same problem occurs even if I reduce the video file dimensions down to 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 or 960 x 540.

Thank you Aleksej. You are definitely a crack because I visted the link above and felt more lost than Charles Lindberth's baby because of the technical language used. Anyway, I will have another look over the next couple of days to see if I could manage to get some applicable information. In the meantime, I am attaching to this message the video MP4 file I have been encoutering problems to see if you could make a try by yourself at your end. In the meantime, thank you again for your prompt response and we keep in contact.

"I am attaching to this message the video MP4 file" - I do not see the file.

"put the link of the page" - I agree. That would be good.

Thank you and my apologies for having failed to attached the video. The page I am about to start bulding is www.babelcinema.com. Links are not yet functional and the heading is an image. For the time being I just wanted to do a test by uploading a video in the front page exactly in the area (page area) you see the image. As an aside, this image was taken as screenshot from the video itself. The original video is in MP4 format with a frame width and height of 2048 x 1080 and is quite heavy (69.6 MB). Unfortunately it didn't work as I received the error message quoted on my previous thread.

Then I reduced the MP4 file attached to this message with a weight of 5.85 MB and frame width and heigh of 960 x 540 but it didn't work either. This has been the reason to approach you for any possible assistance.

I have just realised the file failed to attached. Then realised your system only accepts attachements up to 1MB and the MP4 in question is five times the upper limit. Sorry! Anyway, if I upload the video to replace the image I immediately get an error message stating «This video can't be played in this browser. Try using a different browser» with the whole page background in solid black color.

To help us assist you, why not create a page on your site with the video on it, then mark the page hidden (so it doesn't mess with your site) then provide the url here?

You could also upload the video to your site hosting and add a link to the video file on the hidden page?

In the preview with WSX5 you will not see the video file only if you open it in the browser or publish the website.

Hi

Please check www.babelcinema.com

I have done additional tests with 3 different .mp4 video files got from different sources.

TEST ONE: In first place, I inserted the video I referred to last week in the page section (Stage 4). As you can appreciate on attached screenshot, what I got was a solid black square with the following error message:

«This video can't be played in this browser. Try using a different browser.»

The icon of the video camera on top of the page is a link to give you the opportunity to download the file which was automatically uploaded by Website X5 at:

http//www.babelcinema.com/public_html/videos/babel_cinema.mp4

The "babel_cinema" .mp4 video file details are as follows:

Length: 00:00:18
Frame Width: 960
Frame Height: 540
Data Rate: 2725 kbps
Total Bitrate: 2725 kbps
Frame Rate: 29 frames/second
Audio: Not Applicable

TEST TWO: I got a second mp4 video fie called "norway" which I manually uploaded in the server of www.babelcinema.com using FileZilla. Then inserted a n image with the map of Norway on top of the page hyperlinked to the following path: http//www.babelcinema.com/public_html/videos/norway.mp4

Again, I got the same error message when trying to download "norway" video file by clicking on the map. The Norway file details are as follows:

Length: 00:00:12
Frame Width: 960
Frame Height: 540
Data Rate: 2696 kbps
Total Bitrate: 2686 kbps
Frame Rate: 29 frames/second
Audio: Not Applicable

TEST THREE: The file used for this test named "beach" was created by myself while visiting The Caribbean. I did the same as the "norway" file above manually uploading it in the server and then inserting a picture of a beach on top of the page hyperlinked to the following path: http//www.babelcinema.com/public_html/videos/beach.mp4

Again, I got the same error message when trying to download the "beach" video file by clicking on the image of the beachThe "beach" file details are as follows:

Length: 00:00:07
Frame Width: 1280
Frame Height: 720
Data Rate: 10220 kbps
Total Bitrate: 10220 kbps
Frame Rate: 30 frames/second

Audio:
Bit Rate: 14 1kbps
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio Sample Rate: 48 kHz

CONCLUSION: I have Google Chrome on my PC but I don't think this is a browser-related issues as the same error message shows up with Internet Explorer and Firefox. Also, it doesn't seem a problem linked to the files themselves as I got them from different sources and can open them nicely on my computer hard drive. If you cannot solve this I would like to email you the files to your preferred email address that could be sent to me as non-public message. Otherwise I would be stock without being able to enjoy the possibility to upload video files on the software.

I get the same error, what can you play babel_cinema with? I downloaded it but it will not play even in VLC. If it plays thru VLC on your pc it appears to be corrupted on upload. The file I downloaded was 0 bytes

I did try to also download http://www.babelcinema.com/public_html/videos/norway.mp4 but only got a not found error.

I also got a not found error with http://www.babelcinema.com/public_html/videos/beach.mp4

Are you sure you are providing the correct URLs?

You are a rocket scientist as the URL were not correctly spelled even if I copied and pasted them from FileZilla. Please type the URLs quoted below and you will get as result:

The following two files are not showing the error message but are not working:

http://babelcinema.com/videos/babel_cinema.mp4

http://www.babelcinema.com/norway.mp4

The following file works fine and it was the file created by myself from my smartphone:

http://www.babelcinema.com/beach.mp4

CONCLUSION:

Firstly, I woul not pay attention to the images on the header (www.babelcinema.com) because hyperlinked URLs were not correctly spelled out.

Secondly, as far as the «beach» mp4 file is concerned, it is pretty clear there is neither file nor browser related issue. It doesn't work on homepage at www.babelcinema.com built with WSX5 as we only see an error message, but it can be accessed by typing its URL which could induce us to infer the problem lies at WSX5. I think we should focus on the «beach» file as you will be able to download it and do additional tests at your end.

Thank you!

PS: By the way,  this experiences shows we should be careful with companies selling video files. I have bought some video files but cannot remember right now the purchasing status of the other two as I also got some of them for free (open license).  In a nutshell, from now on I will be extremely careful in purchasing video files online as there may be a reason why some of them are offered either for free or at a cheap price. Needless to say, it is important to solve this issue as I need to be sure a video will work on WSX5 before paying for it.

Hi Myron. One thing is playing on a device like Apple iPad or PC when we click on the file (i.e. in the same way we click a Word file to open it) and another one is being able to play on a Web page created by WSX5.

Are you saying you see the file playing on the following Web page?
www.babelcinema.com

By playing I mean being able to see the video on the page and also by clicking on the 3 images on the header. If the videos are not showing up in this way then the problem has not yet been solved.

Thanks

The «beach» video is now working if I click on the middle image on the header of the page. The reason is because I updated the URL of the image's hyperlink. However, the video in the centre of the page is not yet working. Neither the «camera» and «norway map» images on the header.

Good news! I did a last test by installing the mp4 created with my smartphone («beach») in the main page (Stage 4) and has worked. I just did it a few seconds ago.

CONCLUSION: My difficulties with viewing MP4 video files are not due to a fault in WSX5 but some incompatibilities the two other files have with WSX5. I would be happy emailing you the other two files so that the team at WSX5 could do additional tests because it is clear there is an incompativility. If you like, feel free to give me an email address in order to email you back the two files.

Thank you everyone!

KolAsim's comments above provided the clues to solve the problem i.e. regarding CODEC standards and YouTube reliability for their larger compatibility compliance.

SOLUTION: I contacted a friend who has a video editor software and he converted the «norway» file to a YouTube file which is the one you can see playing now on www.babelcinema.com. This story shows it is possible we may need to some homework by tweaking and playing around with video files to make things work in WSX5 platform. So, we I am happy to treat this issue as solved.

PENDING ISSUE: It only remains the fact that I configured this video in "autoplay" (Option 2) with no control bar visible. However, it doesn't star automatically and it is still showing the «play» button.

As an aside, the black bars on top and below the video doesn't bother me too much as I assume this is a frame size-related issue that should be corrected with a video editor software.

Thank you!

PS: I really like the way video is displayed at PayPal home page (https://www.paypal.com/) as it starts automatically in autoplay but only shows the STOP icon. I will do some catering around to see if I could find out how to achieve such a great display. Perhaps this is a control bar issue that could be managed by a video editor software but I am not sure about.

 ... ... ...   However, it doesn't star automatically and it is still showing the «play» button. ... ... ...
   (It > En) ... maybe the current video (MP4)! contains a hidden audio track, and in this case autoplay cannot work in recent browsers due to convention taken ...
... you can try to use the video as the background of the line(*), as the program makes the video silent (muted),  and therefore the autoplay should work ...

... or alternatively, in a cell you can insert an Object HTML Code and use the <video> tag with "muted"  attribute...

Hi KolAsim. After visiting a few websites and finding out what video tag is all about, today I managed to spit some codes for the first time in my life with the intention of putting the video in autoplay and muted. Unfortunately it didn't work. The codes I put using the HTML objet in the main page are this:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>

<video width="1280" height="720" autoplay controls muted>
<source src="http//www.babelcinema.com//beach.mp4" type="video/mp4">
Your browser does not support the video tag.
</video>

</body>
</html>

The best video display I have ever seen is on PayPal homepage (cf. attachment). It starts playing in autoplay and the only button we see is the PAUSE/PLAY one. That's a really cool effect. I have seen codes for hiding the CONTROLS but not for selectively show the PLAY/PAUSE button as only choice. Another achievement is having managed to place the PLAY/PAUSE button periferically instead of appearing in the centre. It is located on the lower right hand side of the page.

Hi KolAsim. Thank you very much for the correction. According to what I have understood, I have got the impression we may get more control of videos by using an HTML object.

The big problem I am confronting now without any solution in view is the inability of keeping a 16:9 ratio without getting black bars on top and below videos. A friend of mine eventually managed to delete those bars but such cropping broke the ratio so that final videos come across as being square rather than rectangular shaped as usual.

To give you a clear idea of what I am referring to I have inserted twice the same video at www.babelcinema.com placed side by side in the page area (Stage 4). The one of the left corresponds to the cropped video and the one on the right hand side keeps the original ratio of 16:9. The header is highlighted in yellow.
Both videos have «0»margin, so there should not be any space between the videos and the header. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen on the right hand side due to the black bar.

QUESTION: Is there any way of cropping the black bars without damaging the quality resolution of videos and without having to produce square-shaped videos that look really weird.

Thank you again!

PS: A video editor helped to change the color of the bars from black to white but this doesn't help videos to fit within our desired margins.

I wouldn't agonize about the 16:9 aspect ratio. Not all devices are 16:9 natively. For example, Apple iPads are not 16:9. So you could have a video that is 16:9 playing perfectly on a specific desktop PC without any black bars, then view it on an iPad and there WOULD be black bars.

YouTube doesn't worry about the 16:9 aspect ratio, and nor should you.

(It > En) ... in cells do not use more than one video in autoplay, not recommended; better none autoplay;
(... as said before, it is better to use YT videos...)
...
... if you want to see the video in 16:9, without black bands, ... then you have to insert it in cells with an adequate ratio ...

... or, as mentioned above, you can simply insert it as the background of the row, and in the row insert a single Image Object extended for the whole row; ... in this Image Object use a transparent PNG image (alpha = 0), with a 16:9 ratio, for example 1600x900 pixels ...
... in this way the video will be as wide as the guest window, rationally resizing itself based on the width of the window ...
... for a test, you can use my 16:9 image (1200x675) here attached ...

Thank you to KolAsim and Myron for your insightful and useful comments. I will try to use the Row Formats window as last time I was unable to apply them.

PERSONAL FEEDBACK (Guide): (https://guide.websitex5.com/en/support/solutions/articles/44001697155
I think your guide is lacking of a sequence of images going along with written steps. This is not only applicable to Row Formats but also to Parallax and other relevant topics. At least for me who am far from being competent in computer or Web matters, it is difficult to follow the guide without graphical support either static (JPG) or dynamic (video tutorials). I am 100% sure sales at WSX5 will rise exponentially if videos are created for registered clients who have paid for the software which is extremely powerful but needs guidance to take full advantage of it.

On the one hand, I suppose there may be a business risk in uploading this sort of tutorials on YouTube because your competitors could copy or even improve some of your tools. On the other hand, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day people would actually see what they could achieve with WXX5 and will have to pay for the software to apply what they would have watched on videos. Finally, I am aware of the financial burden in uploading videos on your server because of heavy data consumption and this is why I quoted YouTube as video warehouse for WSX5.
