Too many pages linking more projects
Autor: Jacques V.Dear all,
If I want to make a new page, I get a warning. It says: --Too many pages. You can split up your work into more projects and link them together.-- I have more than 2000 pages and everything works fine. I've always copied a page and retitled it into a new one. Then I get no warning....
Why.... that warning..... if things are allright? Is this just a hint... or a warning about errors...
In the past I had my own solutions to keep a clear view on the project...
How should I split up things. If I cluster many pages under one menu-item, they stay in the same project......(?)
In former times, some years ago, I got a vague and unclear answer on this matter....
While things are working well, I thought: - Let's try again... -
Best regards,
Jacques V.
Hello.
"Why.... that warning..... if things are allright?" - As far as I know, the program is not designed to create a site with a large number of pages (more than 2000) in one project. You may have problems and errors in the program with so many pages.
"How should I split up things." - This can be challenging. In short, I would do this. For example, you have top-level menu items in your menu: "Menu item 1", "Menu item 2", "Menu item 3". In the top-level menu item "Menu item 1" 500 pages, "Menu item 2" - 1000, "Menu item 3" - 500. Copy your project and in its copy leave only the pages for "Menu item 2". Upload this project to a subfolder of your main site. Also do not forget to write redirects from old addresses to new ones for all "Menu Item 2" pages. And you need to change the top menu of the main project and its copies.
"If I cluster many pages under one menu-item, they stay in the same project......(?)" - yes, it doesn't solve the situation.
"In former times, some years ago, I got a vague and unclear answer on this matter...." - Perhaps this is due to the fact that this is a difficult process and difficult to explain on the forum.

Hello all ...
In the past I did read somewhere (?) that 25,000 (max) pages could be created within one project of website x5 professional....
I always thougt ... one should split things up .... ONLY .... to keep a clear overview.
In the past the program always did handle all those pages correctlyand still does..... (more than 2000 pages).
And... visitors of the site can find all things easily via -Inhoud- (Content or index)
I think it would be a huge job to redirect all those pages...
Your colleage Paul once wrote in 2019 in an answer about this matter:
-The newer versions of WebSite X5 incorporate quite a few different warning messages like this one, intended to be useful and helpful, and to optimise the web design experience for the user: in this case the point being that a project with a large number of pages can become difficult to manage. However, the message is merely advisory and you can dismiss it by ticking the checkbox marked 'Don't show this message again'.-

I sent a notification about your question to the company employees, expect an answer from them here in the comments.
Hello Jacques
I can safely confirm that adding more than 2000 pages will not cause the software to stop working. There is no such limit in the software
The warning appears to let you know that a project too big in size might produce high elaboration time, and this is of course normal. If you have thousands of pages, changing something in the header for example will cause the re-elaboration of all pages. This means that the time to perform changes might get longer, but the software won't stop working because of this
If possible, it is advised to split the project into more projects like described by Aleksej, but this is completely up to you.
I hope I was helpful

Hello all,
The only handicap I see, for the time being, is the longer time that's needed to upload all those pages.
That time could be shorter if all pages, that have the same lay-out, could use one central css-file.
When I'm uploading the project I see all those css-files pass, while only one css-file could be centrally used by all those pages that have the SAME lay-out.
I might be wrong....
Nevertheless I made one css-file for the text below all that pictures on all those pages..
A build-in function on this matter might be an idea for the future; that one can select all all the pages thAT that have the same lay-out......
Best regards,
Jacques V.
