Cannot setup page level menus to work per main menu tab choices  en

Hi - I've almost finished rebuilding my two main websites after losing the backups when stored on OneDrive. However, I'm struggling to get the menu option to work such that ONLY the main menu items appear on the header and ONLY the dropdown choices from THOSE main menu items appear as appropriate for each tab. The choice I'm experiencing is "Menu" which duplicates the top level choices on the sidebar or else to select the next level BUT it then only shows the choices for that particular tab no matter which tab you're on. It's not intuitive and I've spent tons of time on this reading a lot of queries but not getting the answer I need. I just can't work this out. Also, the hamburger button is not responsive in preview mode even though the sidebar is wide enough and I've stretched the box so that the items appear. Ideally, I'd like to have the hamburger show on each tab but ONLY show the choices for THAT tab when clicked. I must be doing something completely stupid but I just can't see what! Thank you,

Orla (PS I'm going to post 6 screenshots to show what I mean)

Orla, you should select root (menu) for the header menu, selecting one of the headings will display a drop down of sub pages.

The header menu cannot be related to the side menu, to achieve what I believe you want, place a menu on each sub page, do not use the sidebar. Once you get the menu correct for one of the pages you can simply copy the menu object and paste it to the next page in that group.

EG

For news you would need to create a menu with News as the root first on the "Latest" page. Configure that menu as you like (colours/margins, etc), then copy the menu object and paste it on to the "A river rolls on", "Publications" and the "Sadly missed" pages.

Thank you Esahc - my header menu already has 'Menu' view and I'm happy with how the header menu works. How can I insert a menu on a page so the correct sub-menu shows from that tab? I tried to do this but could not find the menu icon to drag into the column I added?  Thank you!
