Since the last update a linked page is mandatory. Is there a way of bypassing this setting as users lick on the heading and end up at the linked page and not the RSS content where before the heading was on text and not a hyperlink.

Hello Barry,
actually this feature was introduced in one of the last update because if the link is not present it trigger a validation error, hence the link is now mandatory. If you are not interested to link a specific page I can suggest you to set the home page of your site.
Please let me know f you need further information, thank you

but when the visitor clicks in the BOLD heading expecting to go to the RSS they end up else where anf not what they expect. is there a way to over ride this or go back to the way it was else I will have to find a better program
Hello Barry,
There is no way to over ride it because, like explained Michele C., the RSS standard imposed to have a link and then the Feed is not validated and some Feed Readers could not display it correctly.
The Program generates files according to the standards and it cannot be changed.
Many thanks!

I know I can edit the XML file but is there a way of self editing this mandatory link from within websiteX5?
Hello Barry,
Unfortunately no because the program is set to generate code that follows the standards and this cannot be changed.
Many thanks!

I have another issue with this change in the RSS where a linked page is mandatory. I have attached a screen capture of a real problem.
I am using the RSS to allow the user to download/read a PDF. With your change I MUST link to an existing page.
I have attached a screen capture to show the three lines displayed and the corresponding links for each line of the RSS entry.
1 The heading points to the mandatory link.
2 The date and time of posting. The hint on the arrow for this link says "Go to full article" but it points to the mandatory link.
3 The title of the post. as last this can be set to the actual PDF.
This issue is totally unsatisfactory. If it is mandatory can you allow the ability to select a meaningful link so the user does not end up in an endless loop?
Hello Barry,
Please open an IDEA post to suggest the feature you would like to have in the program so it will be taken in consideration.
Many thanks!
