Error updating 406  en

I am having the same problem as others have had with updating the software.

I have:

1)  Switched off my virus software

2)  Made sure that all parts of the websiteX5 software is not running by using Control Alt Delete.

3)  Closed all other software

The updater gets about 3/4 of the way through, the green bar briefly goes backwards and the error message appears...

I haven't been able to find a real solution to this in ANY of the previous postings...

Is it easier to just uninstall the software and download the latest version?  If so, how do I ensure all my sebsites are saved?

Hello Alan,

Try this, which is the best way to resolve the issue given the situation you describe:

Download the latest release (10.0.8.35) from the 'Download' section of your 'Profile' here on answers.websitex5.com  -  save the setup file to the location of your choice, but don't open/run it yet.

Reboot your PC, and ensure that WebSite X5 is not running automatically upon restart  (it won't be, unless you have it set as one of your 'Startup' items in your program folder).

Right-click the setup file you saved earlier and select 'Run as administrator'  -  follow all onscreen prompts, etc.

You will be installing the new version directly over the old.  The setup program will update and replace files as necessary.

You don't need to uninstall the software, and your website projects will be preserved as they are saved in a different location to the program files by default.  However, I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping backup copies of your projects in a separate location from your main hard drive (perhaps on a USB drive, external hard drive, or on the cloud, etc.)

You should then be up and running.  Let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Paul
