Password pages - members area  en

I am in the process of creating a site for my school and have a question related to members area.

Please bear with me if I'm not explaining myself the right way but I'm a beginner just learning as I go.

My question is how many member areas can we create within one site? Meaning a set of pages where a password would be needed.

Because of student privacy issues I need to be very careful of what I am including in the site in terms of pictures or names. I'm planning of avoiding both as much as possible but in some circumstances I would need to include one or the other. For that reason I would prefer that to enter the site parents, teachers and students would need to use a password. But then, within the site itself, I also wanted to include some suggestions and ideas to teachers only in a set of pages that I would like to have a different password so only teachers would have access to.

Another option would be no login needed to the site itself and then two areas ( gallery and teachers pages ) with a different password.

Is this possible at all? One password to enter the site itself and then another one in one area of about 5 pages being private and available for teachers only? Or even the second option?

Thanks for any input you can give me

Hello Ana,

You have explained your requirements well.

I am pleased to advise that your version of WebSite X5 (Evolution 10) is capable of handling this type of situation.

The key to success is in the creation and management of 'groups', in the Advanced Settings (Step 4) > Access Management section of WebSite X5.

You will need to create two distinct groups: one for parents and students, and another for teachers.

You then set a lock on each page in your project which has confidential data in it, using the Site Map in Step 2 of WebSite X5.

When you assign the groups to the locked pages you ensure that the teacher 'superuser' group is the only group which has access to the 'suggestions and ideas' pages.

So, you will end up with a project which looks something like this:

Pages 1  - 3: open and accessible to anyone browsing the internet

Pages 4 - 6: locked and accessible only by parents, students, and teachers

Pages 7 - 9: locked and accessible only by teachers

If you press the 'F1' key on your keyboard whilst on the Access Management page in WebSite X5 then this will bring up context-related help on creating and administering the necessary user groups.

However, please feel free to revert to us if you have any further queries.  We will be only too keen to help.

Kind regards,

Paul
