How do I adjust the wdth of a website from a custom template?  The Header has a fixed width and won't let me adjust it.  Here is the site:  www.forevergreen.ca

Hello Peter,

Go to Step 1 General Settings > Template Style > Template Structure...  select 'Header' from the 'Page Section' drop-down menu (see the attached screenshot).

The other components of the template can be adjusted in a similar way.  Note that the width of the 'Page Contents' is related to the 'Header' width.

Further information on the various settings is available in the WebSite X5 help file:

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks Paul.

Problem is that the page contents image, the Header background (image???) and the footer background (image???) all do not resize along with the header, and the width option to adjust them is shaded out and not available.  These are all from and existing template the I sued from the gallery.  How do I get them to adjust alnog with the new page width?  Please take a look at the url and try it yourself.

Hello again Peter,

I understand what you are referring to.  I will try and explain further as best as I can.

The 'Width' setting is greyed out because it is tied to the width of the 'Header' setting, which can be adjusted.  The following extract from the help file might be useful:

"The actual width of the website pages is given by the width of the Page Contents section (that depends on the width of the Header), minus the left and right margins."

The background images cannot be resized and will not shrink or expand dynamically as you adjust the Header width, because if that were possible it would distort their aspect ratio.  It is possible to remove the images and insert new ones, of course...  it would be sensible to use wider images if you are thinking of increasing the Header width.

You can even edit the existing images if you prefer.  Right-click on the 'Image File' field and select 'Open file location'...  you will see the images which make up the template...  make copies of any which you want to edit (don't edit the originals!)

The template that you have used (Nature 42) is set to a narrow header width by default, and as such would be best suited for smaller viewports.  You might want to look for a template which has a width of 960 or more.

Hope this makes things clearer.
