Problems With Menu
Автор: David A.I am using Website X5 Evolution 10, and I am having a probelm with the top horizontal menu. Under "Advanced Settings" and then "Main Menu" All of my buttons (Page 0, Page 1, Current Page, Page 3, and Level) all have the same attributes (background=red, text color=white, border=black), and I chose no hover difference (no different colors or shapes).
When I hit the Preview button, it looks correct. Yet, when I publish the site and upload files to server, the menu looks incorrect. It displays wrong buttons that I used previously, hover effects and colors that I no longer wanted. Again, I previously used them, but updated my preferences in the menu settings.
I have deleted all the files from the server and then re-uploaded thinking there were some old files in there causing the problem, but that didn't help. I also deleted old browsing history and cache, but that didn't help. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this?

Hello Dave,
Are you sure you emptied your browser cache correctly? The reason I ask is that your site appears to display as you wish (please see the screenshot attached - also note that there were no hover/mouseover effects).
If there is any doubt then use an alternative browser temporarily to rule out cache issues.
Holding down the 'CTRL' key and pressing 'F5' (in any browser) will force a full reload of any page which does not appear to display as you think it should.
On a side note, your copy of WebSite X5 is badly outdated. There have been many improvements and bug fixes since version 10.0.2.24 - please update to the latest release, which is 10.1.12.57
You can do this within the program itself, or alternatively download the most recent setup file from the following location:

Paul,
Thank you very much for the information and advice, as holding CTRL & F5 seemed to do the trick. By the way, is there a way to force a user's cache to refresh (like holding down CTRL & F5) whenever they visit the site? I'd like to ensure they are seeing the latest version.
In regards to updating software, I'm afraid if I do:
1. I'll lose any sites / files I have saved
2. I won't know how to use the new program.
Is the user interface essentially the same?
Thanks again,
Dave
You can insert meta tags in the header using the 'Expert' feature within WebSite X5, which will force the browser to load a page in its entirety without resorting to the cache. Here is a link to some useful tags:

Having said that, it is not generally recommended to bypass the cache. In normal usage your visitors will always see your most recent content because the browser has logic built-in which allows it to determine when to refresh the page. It is only when testing (reloading a page exceptionally frequently) that sometimes the cache gets in the way.
You won't lose any of your sites if you update your software. The project files are stored in a separate location to the program files. Please ensure that you always have a backup of your projects in any event, in particular one which is kept remote from your PC, such as on an external hard drive, USB flash drive, cloud location, etc.
Yes, the user interface is essentially the same after updating (if not identical!) - only the software bugs are fixed!
