Cannot Apply Link to Text

When I insert and edit a text object, the link icon does not appear. Ctrl-L does not work. It also does not work in HTML/Widgets objects. So, how can I simply put a link to download a file in a simple text object?

Hello Richard,
You have to first 'select' the text with your mouse by holding down the left button and dragging the mouse across the text to highlight it... the hyperlink icon will then become active in the edit toolbar.
