To My Fellow X5 Users:

While we all wait patiently for Incomedia to provide us with a built-in spell checker, I have found a good solution to the problem. (I've also provided Incomedia with resources to open source, multi-language dictionaries they can incorporate into X5. Hopefully they will see fit to do so some day soon.)

Click on the link below and go to the website for a stand-alone spell checker that will work in memory (RAM) as you type content into X5. It works well. And there are also language dictionaries other than English available to those that need them.

http://tinyspell.numerit.com/

There is a free version and a more feature-rich version that costs only $10. Unless you are completely penniless, super cheap, or totally averse to helping out another human being, please buy the $10 version and reward the author for his/her work. It will be money well spent. (No I'm not the author, or an affiliate, or anybody associated with the website in any way, shape, or form.)

I hope this helps the many people wanting and waiting for a spell checker to work with X5.

You're welcome.

Update to my previous post...

  1. Be sure to start tinySpell+ first before starting Website X5. It needs to be running in memory (RAM) at the time X5 loads or for some reason they don't work together. But just load it first and then you'll have a workable spell check while using X5. If you purchase the license you can elect to have it run a startup so that you don't have to remember to start it first.
  2. If you are trying it first with the trial version, you need to be aware that the trial version has to be turned on and will only work for 15 minutes. After that it will not work again until 15 minutes have passed. It's sooooo much easier to just spend the $10 and buy the license so it works all the time.
  3. I configured it so it checks the spelling "on the fly," I changed the display duration from 5 seconds to 10 seconds, and I selected "large" for the spelling tips display. It really works quite well and is so much better than not having a spell checker.

I really like designing websites with X5 and I wanted to continue to use it, but not having a spell checker was a deal breaker for me. I mean, who wants spelling errors in their site content? So this little spell checker program is a great fix until Incomedia decides to add a built-in spell checker.

Also, on the tinySpell+ website you will find dictionaries for multiple languages for those that need it.
