I want my customers to download an excel file, so they can calulate their expected expenses themself. How should I proceed to make ths work?

upload the file, then set a link, in the link you can use the option (description tab) you set there use right mouse button for download. Or set the text in the object where the link is, the best way is to use the right mouse button.
You need to disable the html code protection. step 4 -> satistics and seo (at he bottom)
If you don't want this use a zip or arj (selfextracting file) for the excel sheet.
