Text Doesn't Look As Good As It Should
Автор: Mike M.Hi,
I am new to creating websites and have come across a text problem that I hope someone maybe able to help with.
I am using WebsiteX5 Evolution 11
I want to create a footer that includes text.
I looked on the WebsiteX5 website at the text displayed in their footer and it displays quite nicely.
I checked out which text it was and it appears to be ( Tahoma 13 point )
I attempted to display some text in the footer of the website I am creating and also used the ( Tahoma 13 point ). However, my text looks very different. Although it is the same font type and point size of the the font onn the WebsiteX5 website, it appears bigger and looks very jagged. Especially noticable on the letter ( w ) for example.
If I reduce the size of the text to ( Tahoma 10 point ) on my website so that the text matches the size of the ( Tahoma 13 point ) text on the WebsiteX5 website it looks even worse.
Can anyone shed any light onto why my text looks so inferior even though I am using the same font type and size please?
I have included three small screen grabs to illustrate the problem.
In order that the fonts may be judged equally I have typed the same words that appear on the WebsiteX5 on my website version for comparison.
My text looks just as bad if I use the same grey background colour as the WebsiteX5 website so it is not because mine is on a reddish background.
Also, I am not using Google fonts - just the Tahoma font that came with Windows. Could this be the problem.
I just don't understand why my text appears so jagged and it is ruining the look of the page.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Mike.

Another user Michael S had the same problem. I posted that he should check cleartype fonts and fontsmoothing was enabled. I assume this solved his problem but he never followed up with a final post, perhaps it will help you.

Hi,
Thanks for your quicky reply.
Yes - cleartype is enabled on my computer but thank you for the suggestion.
In my attachments you will see that rendering of the text in the WebsiteX5 sample image is quite good but in mine, although I am using the same font type and size, it is not.
Do you know if there are any in depth tutorials on how to include Google fonts as I am very new to all of this.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
Mike.

Effectively you go to https://www.google.com/fonts and download the font/s you want locally, then copy the code fragment for adding to your webpage/s.
I had a problems where try as I might I could not get the chosen fonts to display on all pages, but I resolved it by simply placing the code fragment in the header. I have used this trick on a number of sites now and it has always worked reliably.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I will have a try at it.
Hopefully it will also solve another problem I had a while ago with my first website attempt www.justkeedie.com which I created with WebsiteX5 Evolution 11 where I used justified text next to images where I aligned the top and bottom of each section of justified text with the top and bottom of the image that sat adjacent to it.
If you should look at it please overlook the pink and purple colour scheme - it's what a friend of mine, who I made the website for, requested
This all looks perfect if you view the website in Firefox but if you view the website in Internet Explorer or Chrome, for example, the top and bottom of the text does not line up with the top and bottom of the image anymore - it usually extends below the image with the bottom line of text not justified to the end of the line anymore.
Hopefully, employing Google fonts may correct it.
Anyway, thank you once again for your helpful suggestions.
I have a lot of questions I need to ask but I won't bombard you with them all.
I am about to post a few more and if you are able to help with any of them then that would be really appreciated.
The next question I am going to post in the Questions section, which I will go into in more detail, will concern how to make the header of the next website I am creating adapt to all the different laptop and desktop screen resolutions.
In the website I am creating now I have a header containing images and text that stretch right across the screen of my 1920 x 1080 monitor. However, if I view the website on a monitor with a 1600 x 900 or 1280 x 720 resolution then the sides get cut off.
I don't have a problem with the body of the website as I keep that within the confines. It's just that I don't want to lose anything off the sides of the header and I don't want to have to move everything in the header away from the sides in order for it all to be seen.
I would just like the header to display, as designed, in all resolutions.
Best regards,
Mike.
