I want to start a blog using Website X5 12 and cannot see what to do. Is there a simple step guide with all the terms explained?
How do I do this?

Hello Adrian,
The Home edition of WebSite X5 is a basic edition which does not incorporate a blog feature:
http://static.incomedia.eu/websitex5.com/v12/v12_comparative_chart_en.pdf
If you upgrade to the Evolution or Professional edition then you will be able to create blogs. In that case the instructions for doing so are here:
http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/evo/index.html?blog.htm
Kind regards,
Paul

I already have Evolution 12 with the blog feature. Actually I dont see my license in the list and I was told last time that it would be added.
My key for that is:

The purchase code is:

Thank you for the link, I will try it now..

I did read this before which is why I am confused. Can you show me an example of a working blog?
You can add your licence details to your profile yourself:
https://answers.websitex5.com/profile/licence
The reason I quoted the 'Home' edition in my original reply was because you specifically tagged this thread 'website x5 home 12' - apologies for any confusion.
There are many WebSite X5 users who make use of the blog feature. Hopefully one or two of them will add a link to this thread so you can see a WebSite X5 blog in action.
In the meantime you can read further about blogs in general, and the way they are implemented in WebSite X5, here:
http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/evo/index.html?blog_app.htm
http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/evo/index.html?blog_blocchi_laterali.htm
I think that the confusion is mine..... sorry
I would still like to see an example WX5 blog. Then I will se how it works.
Thank you
Adrian
There is a Blog on my site, all done and maintained in X5, although I don't expect or allow feedback (not because I am worried about what they'll say, just that it looks bad when few if any say anything :-).

I have used blogger when I was forced to "stray away" from X5 whilst I waited impatiently for their responsive version, and that works well too, but the blog inside X5 takes on all the attributes of the site far more satisfactorily, and it works perfectly on mobiles and tablets.

Thanks for that. I have had a good look through and have questions:
So the blog in x5, this is part of a site or the site itself?
If I start a new page and add a blog feature from the items available and expand it, I am assuming that nothing will show until I have set things up in the Advanced Settings? It says something about PHP in properties in Step 2 but when I go there I see nothing about setting file names.
I started out thinking that I could just have a d-name - in my case Focalist.net and that that would then open the blog so what I did was to start to create a new wx5 site to match my website www.focalview.co.uk and then made a page called news and views where I thought the blog should be.
Trouble is, I think I have sorted out the layout but when I Preview I find that all the website has redesigned itself and I cannot see the desired template. I am clearly missing the bleeding obvious somewhere and now I am in a mess. I suppose what I want to see is a Youtube where I can see how the blog is assembled. Some of the WX videos are really good but I don't see one for a blog. The instructions and the writing you kindly sent are it would seem, out of my league probably because I don't know some of the terminology. Its difficult knowing where to pitch support I suppose because some - like me , are in the basic class.
I will go back and have another read of everything and see where we get to but I have feeling that I shall be just making another website which I will have to keep updating.
Perhaps I should have a look at Blogger but it makes sense to us wx5
Adrian, I believe you are overthinking the problem - it's easy.
The advantage of creating a blog with X5 is that by default it will take on all the attributes of your site.
Click on Advanced Settings, Blog
Add Title - I called mine Fred
Add description - I described what was to be the content of the blog
Now click on Add
Create your first blog entry, give it a title, author (you), category (what does it relate to) tag (which key words would you like people to find it with), fill in the content of the log, add caption (very brief precise of this entry).
You can fiddle with layout if you wish, and allow or disallow comment under the layout and comment tabs.
You have now created a blog and your first entry.
Now go back to your site and add a link to the blog, I added "what's fred been up to?" in my website header and linked it to the blog. When resposive websites became available I added a new level to the site map and linked that to the blog so uses would always have a link available through the menu, but I could easily have used the blog widget and added it to any cell on any page of my site.
PS If you use the widget for accessing the blog entries, click on map creation (step 2 left hand side), highlight the page with the widget on it, click on properties (last entry right hand side), put a tick in file name and rename page with php externsion (eg if it was index, rename as index.php)

Thank you for all this, I am very gratefull and over-thinking is what I do a lot of so thanks for that too.
I have followed the advice and have made a start. I linked the blog to the header as you suggested rather than use the widget and have made a sample entry. I assume that I can add to the blog anywhere I go without having to use the WX5 software which is only on my main computer. I might also want to have registered access for contributors but can't see how do do this at present.
I would like to change the colour of the entries title as at the moment it is not white. I have selected the black background because the rest of the site follows the same theme. Is there a way to do this?
Here is the site which is bare at the minute so I would welcome your comments:
http://focalist.net
There are some pages that are not blogs where I shall be adding material as in a normal website.

I have just purchased the calendar in WX5 but what are ics files? I want to add events to the calendar.
Adrian
I do not believe you can edit the blog except through Website X5 (although you could set up drop box and work on it using your second licence from another pc or laptop). You can however place comments and updates on existing blog entries if you have allowed this.
You change the colours under template style (1) Text style. If you change the page title colour it should change the entry title colour.
I have not yet used the WX5 calendar I'm sorry (so far I have always embedded google), but I believe ics files are your calendar content in a single file. The ics file can be read by WX5 calendar widget or imported into google, etc.
