How to insert an email address link into text on a page  en

I'm building my first web site using Website X5 Evolution 12.  I have a 'contact me' page that has a text element and two map images.  I would like to embed a link in the text element  that will open the users email so they can more easily contact me rather than having to copy the text address that is curently in the text element of the page.

I can't see how to do this.  Can anyone give me a steer please?

Hello Graham,

You can do this using the 'Link window' in WebSite X5.  You need to first highlight the text you want to create the link on (in your Text Object), then open the link window by clicking the icon on the toolbar (near the top), then set the link by selecting 'Email Address' from the 'Action' column.

The full instructions are detailed in the official help file:

As well as the fixed navigation menus, created automatically from the website Map, WebSite X5 lets you apply links to text, pictures and other elements. These links may open internal/external pages, open files, display images, add a product to the shopping cart, and so on.

When you apply a link, you define its action, and you can also define and customize a Tooltip to associate with it: a Tooltip briefly explains what will happen when a visitor clicks on the link.

The options for setting up a link are available in the Action and Description sections.

E-mail Address

You can create a link to open the default e-mail program and send an e-mail. To set a link of this kind, type in the e-mail address and the subject and content of the message (optional).

If you select Enable e-mail address protection, the specified e-mail address will be encrypted in the page's HTML code, so that it cannot be recognized by spyware searching the Internet for addresses to use in spam campaigns.

Kind regards,

Paul

Many thanks Paul.  Still finding my way around the software.

I'll give this a go and will report back.

Good news and bad news.  The procedure you described was easy and the link appears in my web site.  However, when I click on it, another window opens - not my email - headed mailto:xxxxx - the email address I used.  This has the appearance of another website X5 page as the ruler that appeared when I added responsive site is at the top of the page.

The website is not yet on line.  Should the link work even though the site is only on my computer at this time?

Yes, it should if you preview in an external browser (e.g. Firefox or Chrome), but not if you use WebSite X5's own built-in preview browser.

However, I note that you are using the Evolution edition, and unfortunately this does not include the ability to preview in an external browser, unlike the Professional:

No matter, it is not something to overly worry about.  I would expect your link to work fine when uploaded to the server, providing the user has a valid email client installed and set as default on their system.

That is what I was hoping.  Thank you very much for your help.
