I am trying to upload to weest.xyz/test1 .

I am able to ftpes using FileZilla. The settings are attached . Storage space / password / login are not the problem.

I get the error given below when I upload using ftpes with website X5 Pro 12. Any help to solve will much appreciated . Have created a test login to debug this.

Thanks

The upload using Website X5 Pro fails after authentication and retrieving timezone with the message given below . I think this is because the server side connection is closed by then.

Hello Ramgopal,

I have been receiving the same error for months now when attempting to use secure FTP.  SSH works fine, as does plain FTP, of course.

Like yourself, FileZilla connects no problem.

I had a long conversation with my webhost concerning this.  Unfortunately they were unable to resolve the issue.

I have a hunch that it is dependent on hosting and the specific configuration of your webserver.

Kind regards,

Paul

I have asked Incomedia for their comments, since we both experience the same issue.

Thank you Paul.

1. Incremental uploads are not possible.

2. FileZilla works fine.

3. Incomedia really needs to help resolve this issue as it is causing too much inconvenience.

Regards

Hello Ramgopal M.,

I tested the ftp data and noticed on filezilla it appears the message the certificate is unknown and you need to flag it as safe in filezilla to continue. WebSite X5 is has no option to accept unknown certificates and I would suggest you to verify the certificate of the hosting and change it with a safe certificate and then test it again.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio.

Thank you for your response.

The message is because it is shared hosting and uses a shared certificate.

Website X5 also prompts- "untrusted certificate - would you like to proceed ". After which it does proceed. This will hold true for all shared certificates .

The problem appears to be elsewhere , unless you are stating that "ftpes on Website X5 will work only with static ip and dedicated ssl certificate". A vast majority of websites will not pass that criterion. May I request you to please look into the problem further?

Thanks

M Ramgopal

Wrongly used the word static where I meant dedicated.  I still need help.

Thanks

Hello Ramgopal M.,

Website X5 allows to export on shared hostings like one.com which offers shared hosting services and the export works correctly. In your case the certificate is not valid or not know by the services which autheticate the certificates and once you have replaced it or autheticated then the export will work correctly.

Many thanks!

Thank you Claudio with giving me a solution which is another problem! :-) To migrate to one.com , and I suspect it too would fail with multidomain hosting.

WebsiteX5 may work with one.com hosting. I do not know.

GoDaddy fails in the same manner I posted earlier. BigRock hosting fails. Neither are small hosting providers. FileZilla is able to handle the certificate , so I do not imagine there is anything improper or incorrect about the server side certificate unless Incomedia have any specific inputs about it.

I urge Incomedia to please look further into multi-domain shared hosting where a shared certificate does not work with FTPeS.

For those who need a workaround till such time Incomedia acknowledges there is a problem -

My diagnosis was:  there is a problem in ssl certificate storage and exception management.

I looked around for to find how to get the certificate from the FTP host. Firefox has fire-ftp add on. I installed that add-on. Did a ftpes to the site. Stored the exception certificate. Now I had the certificate . Used the Firefox - options - advanced -certificates - view certificates -export . Opened Internet Explorer as administrator. Tools - Options -  Content - Certificates - Import and pointed to the file I had. Used automatically select certificate store as I know no better.

And after that WebsiteX5 works fine for FTPeS . YMMV.

Would be grateful if someone can test this workaround and give feedback.

Cheers

M Ramgopal

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such a detailed report and account of how you were able to get FTPeS working in WebSite X5.

After reading I was extremely hopeful that it would solve my own issue, but sadly it hasn't in my case.

However, I do now think that it has something to do with certificate storage, etc. and you have given me fresh impetus to experiment and continue to strive to find a solution.

Many thanks once again for an extremely helpful post!
