Creating a Reserved Area using Version 8 - following instructions so far hasn't worked  en

I had to leave the "Product" as Evolution 13 (which we have purchased, but are not using - see below) because the Product list doesn't go back as far as V8.

We are trying to create a Reserved Area using V8, but it's not working. Help says "If you create a page for Login Registration, the software will automatically add a Register button to your website." However, this isn't happening. We definitely have PHP enabled because we use it for some other functions. Apart from V8, we have purchased (some years ago) V9 and (last week) V13, but due to (i) difficulties upgrading our web site, and (ii) the fact that V8 does everything we need so far, we want to create the Reserved Area in V8.

Our website url is http://www.integritysoftware.com.au/

We don't get any error message.

I realise that Help also says that the Reserved Area won't work fully until it is actually uploaded, so we tried that as well, but it is not working.

Any assistance (for example a simple step by step guide, including even the "obvious" steps) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rod.

Debbie & Rod.

Hopefully there is a user here who still has an operating copy of V8, sadly I do not.  Incomedia will not help unfortunately.  I only have V9 running and I think it worked the same. First go to advanced settings, access management, creat a new user with username and password. Then in sitemap creation highlight the page and select the locked page icon up the top and select the username. When previewed it should say you will need a password when online.

If I am mistaken, I apologise.

My recommendation is to "bite the bullet". Your site has a significant number of pages, but it just requires a bit of grunt work to copy and paste from online or your running V8 into V13 (you can even copy and paste the template components so the site can look almost identical if you wish). With V13 you will get full support and a version of your website which will not be crippled by the google search algorithm (& it can be responsive). And when you are developing your site you will know it is using today's technology that is not about to shut down (eg if you currently use flash, V13 will use HTML5)

Hello Debbie, Rod,

In v8 you need to create a so called reserved area in step4, standard there is already somethiing filled in, nut you can create own aereas with users. then lock a page and select set this when you lock a page in step2 and upload.

After that if you want to acces that page (only online as you already stated) you get a inlog reguest with a button.

I made a very small new project in v8 just for test and made the button text red.

andreweb.nl/v8

You could try to do this yourself, create a new project lock page on the standard user, then upload to a test folder and see if it works and how it works.

If it works then try it on your normal project. If it works on test and not on your project then maybe some custom code could be in the way in your own project?

If the test does not work then it could be something with your hosting company (php version issue)

You also have v9, so you can import v8, from v9 you can export project and import in v13.

I totally agree with what Esahc says, and yes it could mean that you need to do a lot of work, but once done you are up to date, and can then upload and start using v13, in the meantime v8 will do to keep your site up to date.

Let us know how everythings turns out.

Best Regards,

Thanks very much to Esahc and Andre for your detailed, well-written replies. I agree with both of you - we do want to upgrade the site to V13 and will do that once we get this bit working.

I have found that if I make the changes described below (after uploading the site) I can get the login page to appear (yay!)  The only thing it's not doing now is letting me log in! It says that my username or password is incorrect.

Any ideas about that?

If you'd like to try it you can use;

Username: Esahc
Password: Andre

1. Edit config.php
Line 4: Change $im_session_method) || $im_session_method == 2)
to $im_session_method = 1) || $im_session_method = 2)
Line 15: Change if ((ini_get('register_globals') && !$im_session_method == 1) || $im_session_method == 2)
to if ((ini_get('register_globals') && !$im_session_method = 1) || $im_session_method = 2)

2. In imlogin.php
Line 1: Add error_reporting(0);

Thanks again,
Rod.

Can I please clarify whether or not this is correct:

1. I've made a page called Member's Area in Step 2 of WebSite X5

2. In Step 4 of WebSite X5 I've created a Reserved Area called DCE, with
    - Reserved Area Name = DCE
    - User Name = DCE
    - Password = DCE
    - Login Registration Page = DCE

3. In Step 2 of Website X5 I've made the Member's Area page accessible to DCE

4. In Step 2 of WebSite X5 I've created a page called DCE and made it locked, and accessible to DCE

I've also tried other combinations of the above - something doesn't seem right, and although I've got a login page it won't allow me to log in - it says either my user name or password is incorrect, but I know that's not the case  - any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Rod.

We are 1 step further.....But I can't login with the given login and passwords.

Are you sure name is filled correctle and you have set acces to the reservered area where you have set the correct user?

You need to give acces to the reservered area then the user under that reservered area can login, only them.

Take care of not using empty spaces and fill in password en login as you have in x5, they are captal sensitive.

Also upload your site after changing credentials. Removing cookies might also help.

Can you login to my site?

Why not make a very small test site first, this enures that basics are correct, upload it to a new test folder, you can do that by using the add folder option in x5 once connected to internet. the webadress will then be: yourwebadress/yourfoldername

for instance if you create in the root a folder testv8 then th e adress will be:

http://www.integritysoftware.com.au/testv8

I did in my test truly notthing in the reserverd area, the passwords given are normally already set. I just locked page1 and set two marks "v" by the reservered area.

Thanks for providing more assistance Andre.

Yes, I can log into your site - it works perfectly.

I've tried to make a site like yours, but I can't get to it yet i.e. I have entered http://www.integritysoftware.com.au/reserveedareatest/index into the browser but it says page not found.

What do you mean when you say you "set two marks "v" by the reserved area"? I don't understand that bit.

Also, can you see anything I've done wrongly in the steps 1, 2, 3, 4 in my previous post?

Thanks,

Rod.

OK I got to my test site using;

http://www.integritysoftware.com.au/ReservedAreaTest/index.html

I can see the green site, with pages, but the login doesn't work yet - I'll keep playing around with it.

I'd still like to know what you mean by the "set two marks "v" by the reserved area" and also are my steps 1, 2, 3, 4 correct?

Thanks,
Rod.

I got the test site to work! Now I just have to make the actual site the same way.

I'll let you know when it's done.

Thanks again,
Rod.

This is Rod again. I thought I posted that the Member's Area of our site is now working, but it doesn't seem to have made it through.

For others who might have this issue, the problem was that for some reason the config.php file was not being updated (or uploaded) and so the passwords weren't correct on the site compared to those created in Step 4 of WebSite X5. I wrote the web site out to disk, which forced a new config file to be created, and then uploaded this one. Works perfectly!

Thanks again for all the help,
Rod.
