Kent, it does not sound like an issue with import, although if there are a significant numbers of large high res images, I found that V13 (&V12) performs significantly better if they are resampled down to an appropriate size, for my purposes I resample to 1024px (if this is bigger than required, 400px will see a marked improvement in performance).

Is this a new computer with Win 7, or an older computer?

Are you comparing apples with apples, ie is the Win7 PC running a CPU as powerful as that in the Win10 PC and are the hard drives similar (most Win7 HD's were 5400rpm, newer ones run 7200rpm, not to mention the speed of an SSD)

Does the system need a bit of a cleanup? If so I would download and run ccleaner (free) and download and run defraggler (free). If you are running a "heavy duty" antivirus I would try disabling it and if it makes a difference, try an AV package that is not so heavy on resources.

If this is a laptop, try turning on flight mode so the PC does not even attempt to access the internet.

Let us know if any of the above improves matters??

Esahc, thanks for the reply, sorry for my late reply but I have been away.

The images are the same on both computers.  The w7 computer is a couple of years old (and a fair bit younger than w10 m/c) but is "clean".  w7 has i7 Core cpu/w10 has i5 Core cpu.  Both computers have 8GB memory.  The discs on both computers are SATA 3 running at 7200rpm.  Both discs have been optimized.  The computers are much the same.
I have turned off the antivirus ... no effect.

The significant fact is the difference in program operating speed when the w7 computer is and is not attached to the internet.  See the following table.

The other point that I noticed belatedly is when I view the site locally in a browser (FireFox) there is a search for fonts.googleapis ?????  The preview problem occurs (on w7 m/c) for any page being previewed not just the home page.

Hi Kent, sounds like a nice PC, it should fly!

For want of any other suggestion, if you remove all code requesting google fonts does the situation improve? (yes I realise you will have to put it back before publishing to the web or your pages will be wrong)

OR

Have you tried using the font import as per V13 (attached). This was different in my V12, so perhaps yours needs updating as well? It gets added thru preferences when WX5 is loaded but before opening the project.

AND

Are all the fonts loaded locally on your Win7 PC as they may have been on the Win10 PC?

The only web font used was Lovers Quarrel on the home page.  Have tried using Comic Sans reg in that position. Comic Sans used all through the site.  No change in off-line speed. Tried using the preferences setup for Lovers Quarell ... no change.  This project was started on the w10 m/c when it was w7.  I do not remember similar problems.

I do not use code, just x5.  I have Google analytics code inserted in the page expert section for search engines.

All fonts are local.

Kent - I have run out of suggestions.

Whilst I have often considered requesting a toggle to enable or disable library updates when the Incomedia Servers are under a bit of stress, I am at a loss to explain your delays in generating previews. I have only had this a few times and am pretty sure I have a few dubious sectors on my hard disk.

Good luck - maybe someone else has a suggestion.

I don't know if I have explained the problem clearly or understand how the program works.  In your last note are you saying x5 needs to be connected to the internet when constructing/modifying pages?  It is not not loading updates from the Incomedia Servers that is the problem.  When making a new page I am not connected to the internet.  It is here that I try to preview the new page and loading the preview is so slow.

Normaly I would connect to the internet and upload the project to the server.
If I am connected to the internet x5 works fine and I can preview pages quickly before uplaoding the project to the server.

On the w10 m/c every thing works fine while not connected to the internet.

Is there anyone in the Incomedia progamming section that could shed light on the problem?

I will look at your suggestion.
Meanwhile I have improved the situation makedly by modifying the hosts file.  I stopped the local host from accessing the fonts.googleapis.com.  There is only a small delay (1-2 sec) now.  I am not that conversant with low level system programming. all seems OK.

Kent, I am glad it is resolved to your satisfaction, although if fonts.googleapis.com was being accessed it must be requesting this in either preferences or one or many webpages of your project.
