When I start a new project the TEXT area fails to accept input

Does it happens only with this project or also on a new one?
Have you tried to reboot windows and to test it after again?

PLEASE ignore this post... WIN 10 ERROR, after re-installing WIN 10... all functions of X5 Pro 13 working.
