Issues with 'Audio Player'  en

I'm using X5 v14. How can I link to .MP3 files already on-line? It only allows files on the local hard-drive.

Brian, if you know where the mp3 file is saved, couldn't you do something like this?

Thanks, but it doesn't solve my problem.

I purchased an add-on, 'Audio Player', for 18 credits. I have a number, say 50, large .MP3 files (over 100mb each), so it's essential that I load them onto the internet separately and then link to them from my website, rather than uploading all of them each time I change the web page, which it does now.

I've attached a graphic file showing 'Audio Player'. When you click 'Add' it gives only the local drives.

'Audio Player' has a neat interface that suits what I'm doing, but only if I can upload the .MP3 files separately.

Brian, have you tried using filezilla (free) to upload your site rather than WX5?

I have found that by exporting to disk and using filezilla, files are less likely to be uploaded if they already exist (this of course will only work if the mp3 files do not have their creation date updated with every compilation of the site).

If Filezilla works for you, please make generous use of the backup now button (down arrow next to save) because a backup will not get created with website upload.

I am not sure how we request an upgrade to an optional object, but this is obviously what is required to use it and work within WX5.

i use a subdomain, which your hosting company should allow, i.e.

media.yoursite.com

and upload media files to this subdomain via filezilla.

Then use the internet file option in the audio object.

But have you tried using Filezilla to upload the whole site?

After update, does Filezilla also upload the media files every time??

PS I am only a user, not part of Incomedia

If you are talking to me. I only upload media files(music & video), via filezilla to the subdomain. New media files get uploaded on their own to the same folder in the subdomain.

This is separate from the main domain, which websitex5 handles. So no large files are handled by websitex5, saving me upload time. Depending on where you add a local music/video file on a page means you can end up with all the files being uploaded again.

Mark, as a user all I know is that WX5 has some (minor) failings. I use filezilla for most of my websites - it is faster, more "robust" and tends to upload less unnecessary files.

Your beef is with an optional object, probably not written by Incomedia which will not do as you wish. It is possible that using filezilla for the full project upload may circumvent that problem even though the music files are embedded directly into WX5.

I always use my third party FTP software to upload my Incomedia websites. I use a program called Cute FTP, which is very similar to FileZilla.

This allows me to pick and choose what files and folders to upload after making a change to a website.

So there is no need to re-upload large audio and video files or PDF files that are “constant.”

I have a very fast Internet connection, so uploading a changed website (even a large site) only takes a couple of minutes.

It is best NOT to use the FTP feature in Website X5 to upload your changes.

I did not start this thread, all I was doing was telling Brian Corr, how I dealt with the problem of large media files.

So, Esahc and Myron, please post a new thread informing websitex5 customers not to use the WebsiteX5 ftp feature, which they paid for.

Also the audio player Brian is talking about is the 18 credit version, which I do not own, but apparently according to this user https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/ru/post/184598 does not have the option of using internet files only local files and looking at the png uploaded by Brian would seem to confirm this.

That means all our answers are invalid.

Mark, my aoplogies. I was not paying attention and so did not realise I was replying to a different author.

Yes you are right, the optional music object does not support internet files (but I don't know who to ask to fix this). I am still intrigued to know if the music files are unnecessarily uploaded when using filezilla. Hopefully Brian will provide the answer.

Thanks, everyone.

I wouldn't have a problem if X5 didn't repeat uploads of the large (30mb or so) audio files, even thought the files have not changed in any way.

The audio player that I purchased for 18 credits works really well from a presentation point of view, but I'll have to stop using it until X5 stops these unnecessary uploads.

I'll have a look at FileZilla.

Thanks, again.

I've finally worked out what is happening:

In X5 - 5-Export - Export the WebSite to disk

The audio files have their date/time modified changed, even though nothing has changed. The X5 upload then sees them as changed files.

This is a 'bug' ... should be fixed.

Brian, this should only happen if any changes are made to that page, but I am hopeful that some day Incomedia will restrict new and changed uploads to include only changed cells on a page.
