Design Simple Website without a Template
Автор: P. SamuelsHi - I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place, but I hope someone can help.
I just installed X5 Professional and I'm considering it as an alternative to another program I've been using. I'm NOT a full time designer... I do help customers design simple websites, especially, when they want to get up and running quickly.
For my initial project, I want to mimic a customer's existing 2-page website. The "Home" web page has some information about the company and 3 links: 2 of the links connect to partner websites and the 3rd link goes to "Page 2" of the Website, where the user can fill out an enrollment form.
Here's my question: In X5, is there an easy way to simply:
1) start with a blank page;
2) add the backgrounds that I used in the existing website; and
3) add the text and "links" to the page
Simple, simple, simple, is what I'm looking for. I'm used to a program where I can add text, graphics, boxes and links... in minutes (I'm actually looking for a new program, because my current program is TERRIBLE with forms. I was able to create the exact form in X5 in less than 10 minutes... and it works perfectly!). If you want to look at the existing site: http://www.ceinsurancecredits.com
I know I can't import a website into X5, but if I could have a blank page and the utilities to add what I want, this program will work great for me. My customer doesn't really like change, so if I can just "paint" a blank page to look like the existing website, I'm golden.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
Phil
Hello Phil
This should be an easy one.
Start with no template. ( well you will have the "standard" template, but you can set the template settings so there is no header, menu footer and so.
You can see an example here : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm20/
And the template settings here
Then put in some textboxes. You can design the settings for the textboxes, by clicking the style button.
In the textboxes you can make links, images and text.
A site like the shown, could be made in a couple of hours with X5
Awhile ago, someone posted a totally blank template for X5. Perhaps someone can post a link to it on this forum.
Phil
If you never want a menu on any page then select a blank template
go to step 2 template, template content, select and remove all content (graphic and menu), then return to step 2 template, template structure and set the menu height to 0. You can do the same for footer.
A cleverer way (?)
Select a blank template as above
then go to step3Map and select home page, click on properties, select graphic, and place a tick in the box that says create the page without the template.
You can then return to step3 Map and either delete or hide (recommended) all other pages (Page 1, Page 2, Page 3).
This will give you a one page site with no menu, footer or sidebar.
If you want a background colour for the page (as in your example), go to step4 pages (after completing the page layout), select row formats, select all rows of cells, and then set background colour, gradient, image, image list, etc. and set either page width or browser width.
If you want a menu to remote sites, create a level for each and use properties to link the level menu to another website.
Be warned
You are using the Professional Demo, if you achieve what you require then you will need to purchase the pro version. Nothing you are doing at this time requires pro, so you may wish to experiment with the evo demo.
